probability of a win= 1/100 = 0.01

expected value of Rs 100 bet = 100 x (1/100) x 80
                                       =  80

Considering memoryless distribution, the more you play, the more you lose. For example, if for a period of time you play 2000 rupees, the expected amount left in your pocket is 1600. :) :)

The odds are pretty awful here .. if you compare with the european roulette, the 1:1 payment expectation are 18/37, which is pretty good as compared to your tir-> 80/100

if you want to donate money like this, send some to me .. don't plat "tir"  ;D  ;D

a decisionm tree would drive this point home stronger.
say you have two options.

                                  _____you win----payoff 80
                                 |(p=1/100=0.01)
                                 |
               _____ play---|
              |                  |
              |                  |_____yuo lose----payoff 0
-----Re. 1-|                   (p=99/100=0.99)
              |
              |____ do not play ---------payoff 0

now say you decide to play...then your payoff incase you win is 0.01*80=0.8.
in case you were to lose then your payoff would become 0.99*0=0.
therefore if you decide to play then your aggregate payoff is 0.8+0=0.8.
Now ofthis take out your cost of being a party to the game that is Re. 1.
Thus your net=0.8 - 1.0 =-0.2.

On the other hand if you do not play your payoff is 0.
since -0.2>0, hence the choice here is between losing your money or not losing anything. you still game?
