no acads no placement and everyone is after poor princi
when will the students realise that career-oriented work and not hallabol politics is the only way to a secure future
i speak from the perspective of an ex-recian(not recsil) who has achieved st in life only because i was unwavering in my commitment towards my career and didn't waste time in politics and agitations
btw, staff is not good enough and the better ones are living
those who hang on r more conscious of there rights less of their duties
better try u'r hand in entrance next year and wish u good luck

well ur decision is good or bad depends on what choices u r getting ,,
abt tthe college ,its true that politics is tthere and if u r froom northeren states then it is gonna be difficult for u initially,, but it is also true that any nit degree has its value ,, the college is oon a up after been made nit , corruption is down to lowest ( ithink) and the director is opposed by these corrupt persons only ,,
the college does has a effects of north east , but if u dont have ne option ......

ATM is goin 2 b there..
Campus --- what 2 do with that...
Placement: Ur luck.. Generally 10-15% placements may go up.

My advise: Teacher se samhal ke rehana.. :oThey r not good at all.Upne fai de ki socho r nikal jao. After all a Degree from IIT/REC does matter now a days

Let the flame war begin. I think surathkal'ian is some frustrated soul trapped in hostle 3. Or somebody who got so badly screwed up that can not find a job now.

1. Well, I went to REC Silchar. My JAT rank was within top thirty and that year there were people with rank higher than mine in JAT that decided to join REC silchar. I joined TCS after graduating. Now I work for a fortune 500 company along with many IITians not to mention REXIANs.
Not only me, all of my batch mates are doing very well.
So the moral here is guys, that even if there is not a good campus interview, if you have good credentials you will make it. Name of college is only important only while getting your first job. If you are from IIT it is different. Of course. Else nobody gives a damn which college you went to so long it is a recognised college.

Your NIT degree will definitely help you. But if you get a second class, you will be doomed in surathkal or Trichy too.

2. I have visited some othere campuses too where my friends studied. I never found a campus that has restaurant quality food.

3. Respect is something that you earn by your actions.

4. Engineering campuses are pretty dry in this aspect. It this is your prime concern than why did not you go to TN? The is a huge quota for women in TN.

5. I had a nice life. This is very subjective.

Last but not the least, teachers in REC have AICTE approved qualifications. Except computer science, all other departments have seasoned teachers (At least when I left). If you screw with teachers, you will be shafted. No matter where you study. I have seen people getting screwed while doing their PhD in American Universities.

I totally agree wid Mr.confused ,who rather doesn't seem 2 b confused 'bout his idea of nitsil.I'd a nice time out there.Of course there were pretty bad times too but I don't blame d place 4 tht.Everything pretty much depends on how u tackle situations in life.
And Mr.fresher u need to experience it in order 2 know it(like everything else in life ;))

Guyz,
why do you ask the authorities for fund for building a web site for REC Silchar.

Why dont some of us take initiative and start a website. Does not need to be an interactive site to start with. lets start with an informative one... one which talks about the good things about the college... also we will make it a point to tell people about the evil acts taking place there... this way may be we can help publicize the issues and hope for a solution...

Just to give your morale a boost.

I'm a very old Rexian passed out in 1987. I'm presently settle in California/USA and manage a Software Development Team. I also have a MS and MBA degree too.

So if you are focused and know your goal, you will succeed.

My recomendation that you should join. Prepare hard next year and try for a better institute next time. If you get IITs then very good if not you can go for MTech there.

But an engineering degree from NIT will open more doors for you than just a science degree.

I am in Melbourne Australia doing my Masters in Telecom Engineering.

I need help of someone who is at REC Silchar currently. I require few
documents regarding REC SIL to be scanned and sent to me immediately.

2. Information about the no. of books REC Silchar has in the library.

Yo this surathkalian has an ego problem as big as his ass.
I've been to Silchar ( i was there for 4 months) and it didn't seem a very bad place at all. Everything went smoothly as long as u minded u'r own business. I think all colleges are same as long as u study properly and do what u were meant to do here...

The ragging did break my back... but now i can face any sadomachonist the world has to offer me.

and as for girls... i think the silchar ones are much better than what we have in Calicut ( here the girls have moustaches and beards that beat men's and have teeth parellel to the ground). But i guess Surathkal does have a few bombshells too ( they came to our college and were ...ahem ....not bad).

I do fully agree with Subhro'z idea.That for building the website of our college we dont need to go to the principal asking for funds.
I remember, our juniors/seniors/batchmates collecting funds and everyone responded positively during many occasions.
Now its the time for building a fully dedicated website for our college.So whynot now...

hello mr. surathkalian or whatever you call yourself.well it was or rather is a very pity to hear from you about the reasons that you gave for not joining nit-silchar.'GIRLS'- well this was one of the reasons if i am not mistaken.right??? thats great indeed on your part. ;D tell me onething; if at all there is a great difference in the quality of the girls in your college and nits: then why do you people stare at the girls (having moustache and beard-i agree with barun)with bulging eyes and watering tongue when you come to our college during 'ragam'??that is not fair at all???
well-'food':huh!! your college canteen really toils hard to make food which can at least satisfy the stray dogs!really thanks to your canteen, it makes me remember the story of hari singh in 'once a thief'.wow!! lol everybody i can still remember the academics of my school days. thanks to surathkal.thanks buddy.tahnks a lot!!!!

I am ex- student of the college. the decision is upto you. As you got in electrical .. the lab facilities -electrical is not so bad.but from study point of view .. u have to take lot of care on ur own.. and u can get help from ur senoiors too. but donot expect much from teachers... :)

cheers to alll...does the institute has a cine society..with own vcr...like our time......with evening shows....and spicy hot late night shows..(@@!!!XXXXX### ).....initially..final years not willing to sit with juniors...so there was some arrangement 3-4 year together and 1-2 year together...hahahah..i still remember...some first time viewer in life ( the mirch masal movie...)...used to vaccate the tv room just after 5-10 minutes of the commencenment of the movies..with exhausted..face....hahahaha ;D..still feel laughing...that scenes.....hahahhahahahahah

yaar..one thing I also want to add up to your concern....

If you don't have confidence in yourself no matter what college you are in you are destined to be clogged in a datum level.
Of course getting in good college helps but it only provides you the plane for the initial 2/3 years and nothing else then your quality and talent takes charge

so don't worry too much

getting into good college means good campus and there is high probabality of getting into some good organisation and i think u people also admit tht getting into some good organisation it's tough if u don't get into campus ...beside tht stuidying in college like silchar rec is just getting one degree beside tht nothing and future is also dark..so better if u get into this silchar rec ..bettter give a try next year atleast to go in some good rec where your future is more secured then this college ....

i think every engineering college is the same if u consider parameters like food and gals(even iits). considering teachers, u have to study on ur own in all engineering colleges, teachers r not very diff, and even gr8 teachers cannot make u do gr8 if u do not study. teaching patterns is diff and better in iits,where practical work is given more importance, but others r same. the main thing in which silchar rec was lagging is placements, but this has improved in the last 2 years, this year i heard almost 40-50% were placed, which is not at all bad. so, goin into silchar rec is not at all a bad option if u r serious abt ur studies and goals. in every engineering college ragging is there, and students in all the engg college spend a lot of time njoyin in the hostel, so u have to find time to study and do well among these things coz the hostel life is something which always becomes a precious experience in life.

I really miss my college.
But it's true dat I too had lot of bad experiences there, but life's all abt this. Since those events cudn't make any mark in my life, so I've almost forgotten the bad things & often recollect the sweet memories.
And I belive that it is upto onself, how one can tackle the things as it comes.

But wht Mr. Surthkal told is not completely wrong also...may be some of the points he referred is correct...this college never thinks of student and the course content there is also not upto date and in today's world no body joins any engineering college whether it is Indian's Best and world renouned IIT or any other engg. college obviously govt. college to be a scholar and do research in their corresponding field but only motive behind doing engg. is getting good job and getting good salary(one magazine by chetan bhagat...Five Point someone refers this) ...i hope may be some people disagree with me in this point but boss it's reality people are after money and nobody thinks beside tht and if u join any institution where u don't find the primary think tht is campus placement upto the mark atleast 50% then wht is the use ..as then u have to go to open market and search jobs and beside tht those private college are having huge percentage of marks and the average student out there are getting percentage of marks which our toppers used to get ..then u r screwed up ...and and atleast after getting degree from some reputed institute like NIT u have to search job like beggers and at one point u don't have the choice also ...tht which makes major difference from other NIT where campusing is good ...but another major problem in this NIT is practical classes are less and theoritical knowledge hardly helps u in this world ...regarding food and girls and other stuff those are normal things every college faces this problem.

Hi Guys,
yes, I agree, that a degree from NIT matters. Just to cite an incident. I was asked in my Visa Interview in Bombay. 'So, you graduated from NIT Silchar'. This is wwas really surprising to me, that some Gora sitting in Mumbai, will know something about 'My REC Silchar'. I did'nt expected that to happen. So,, any way the bottom line is the Degrees from NIT matters. In my company, there are very few Rexians, but because of there performance, our college has been rated at' A+' along with the IITs.
So get going guys. Concentrate on you career, I assure you, you will be a winner in your life.

dear adi,
well i'm a final year student of NIT and would like to answer your queries.
1. Placement : If u do kabiraji, u'll def get a job..otherwise god help u :)
2. Ragging: We really take care of new comes...they are treated as "King" for first 1 month ;D
some of the sampleragging activities are :
a)Kissing a cow's a**h**e
b) Proposing a senior girl and asking her vital stats ;).... sometimes, u need take a print of ur weapon on white paper and get it attested by a senior girl.
c) U'll be asked to clean all the dishes of hostel mess and the workers will be given a break :D
d)If u disagree to do any of the above mentioned stuff, then we'll be paid special attention during night hrs with pure leather belts >:(
