how much "sylheti" is our sylheti ??

We, silcharites, claim that we speak sylheti, even we fight (sorry discuss ;)) over the topics like if we are "bengali", "assamese" or "sylheti". From the core of our heart we believe that we are the purest form of sylhetis :). But, have we ever thought or tried to confirm this belief with the people from present day Sylhet in Bangladesh. Well, couple of times I have come across people from present day Sylhet and then I started conversation first in bengali and then immediately in our "sylheti" :). And when I tried to confirm my doubt, mostly they say yah it resembles very much with sylheti but its not "sylheti". One time I was so desperate to prove my sylhetiness that I told I am from Sylhet only. To my astonishment, that guy rejected my claim to be a sylheti.
You can always blame all these experiences of mine to my incapability of speaking good silchari sylheti, but believe me I speak 110% silchari sylheti. So, all these experiences have given me enough reasons to believe that we speak a different flavor of the dialect and which over a period of time (may be we can say 30 yrs or so) has evolved to take the present form. It has inherited so many words and accents from other local dialects like local cachari bangla (which most of our muslim population in cachar speaks) or dialects from other districts of Bangladesh like Kumilla, Brahmanbaria etc, today it is very much different from so called "sylheti" and may be we need to start a process to find a new name;). I feel, people from Karimganj speak a purer form of so called "sylheti" but no doubt, ours is the best “Sylheti” :). |

bazar,pyajama,tikki,masala are english words these days nd will find them in international dictionaries.
language flows and picks up attributes from the environment.
i strongly feel that our sylheti is not pure....
but kya kare.....life is like that
i cherish the memories of one of my relatives, khasia paan aar choon aar home made sadar gura dia jojhon shuddho sylehti te kotha koita...ooi paan er flavour duniar kono jarda y dito parto nai.....aar sylheti gof aar chutki.....out of this world....mane parthib jogoter urdhhey...translation thik aase ni ???

kahe tension leta hain ree...
syhlleti koi are bangla koi...jetaa koi onno manush e bujhte to paare naani..tee are oto chintanir kitaase...
bekar jhamela naa koriyaa syhlleti language chariya java language sikho ;D ;D ;D
