Hi, I was hoping to find any...absolutely any information on the areas listed below. Anything that you know was written or published either in printed form, books, articles etc. or abailable on the web. Any small piece of information would be of help. All these should be related to Barak Valley, generally or specifically. Tonnes of thanks in advance to all those who would help. The whole idea is to have a knowledge base on the lay of the lands that most of us hail from...using this site. So that oveer the years if there energes someone with fire in his heart, who wants to take the valley by the scruff off its neck and give it a new face, she/ he could have a good starting point here through this collection of sources of pertinent information.
1. Infrastructure reports- haves and havenots...roads, power situation etc.. 2. Social, political, economic, cultural landscape of Silchar, Cachar, Barak Valley. 3. Potential growth areas, if identified in any writing ever. 4. Demographic data in terms of lifestyle, per- capita income and whatever else one can think of regarding the same. 5. Industrial landscape, the demands for new industries. 6. Several Five Year plan outlays...money granted to the valley and money realized. 7. Projects that are in the pipeline, or have started but left hung in the middle of nowhere. 8. Agriculture and irrigation, projects, data and related aspects. 9. Comprehensive history of the valley or the adjoining areas.
This is not a comprehensive list, and your source need not cater to each listing seperately...I can well understand that probably not much exists in the form of hard facts in these topics, but this could be a starting point for gathering such information. keu jodi aro kichu line add korta chain, notun area...baa more specific ones...maane ami to general ekta scope define korlaam...keu aro specific korte chaile...baa aro kichu jug korte chaile, feel free to.
(age r message ta t bhuul koriya topic err jegat email address dilaislaam...dukkhito)
thanks and regards Rupam. |

Here's some of the resources in the web that can be used to get the type of information you are looking for.
There are the three district NIC websites which have quite a bit of information -
http://cachar.nic.in/ http://karimganj.nic.in/ http://hailakandi.nic.in/
Cachar DRDA maintains a good website. You can get Block level information from it. http://www.drdacachar.org/home_en.asp
There is a Northeast databank which has lot of information for the state of Assam. Some of that information has district level granularity, but a lot of it doesn't, but its a good source nonetheless. You can check it out at -
http://databank.nedfi.com/index.php?menu=1
The Ministry for Development of North East Region(DONER) has a website at -
http://northeast.nic.in/assam.htm
It has information like Rs. 13 crores were released for the Assam University under the non-lapsable central pool, of which 6.87 crore has been utilized.
The industrial profile of each of the districts of Assam is available at -
http://industriesassam.nic.in/profile.html
A members-only website is available which probably has lots of information. Check it out at -
http://www.northeasternindiastat.com/
A report tabled in the Rajya Sabha, on the subject of constraints for industrial development in North East India took the Cachar Paper mill as its case study. The report can be found at -
http://rajyasabha.nic.in/book2/reports/indus/131streport.htm
The MP Local Area Development scheme details are available for our MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at -

Yes I checked AU's website and it appears Dr. Nayak is now a faculty at Assam University and the book is indeed an Assam University publication. Dr. Nayak used to be in NEHU earlier.
The website lists the cost of the book as Rs.70. Somebody from Economics deptt. in AU may have a copy and also access to the other papers that Dr. Nayak has authored. |
