:o Youth Parliament Competition at NIT, Silchar
For successful functioning of the parliamentary democracy and to train the younger generation in debating skills, manners, expression techniques and to develop leadership qualities, 6th Youth Parliament Competition was recently organized by National Institute of Technology, Silchar, sponsored by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, New Delhi.
Sri Kishor Chandra Satpathy in his welcome address highlighted the role & importance of Youth Parliament Competition in the context of parliamentary democracy.
Col J S (retd) Virk, Director NIT, Silchar in his inaugural address said, India is a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic and has a democratic form of government. A democratic government is run by the representatives chosen by the people. In this content of democracy, Youth Parliament Competition will help the students to understand the procedure; rules and regulations of parliament so that they will able become good parliamentarian in future The Youth Parliament Competition will provides a unique training opportunity to the students to learn and assimilate facts and values essential for a good citizen. It is the younger generation who are going to be the future leaders of the Country. Therefore the teachers should encourage the students to participate in this in this type of competition said Mr. Kabindra Purkayastha Ex-MP from Silchar as this will create awareness among the younger generation towards democratic values.
The Youth Parliament Competition will help the students to learn how to learn & preserve the democratic values like tolerance, discipline, uprightness behaviour and sense of responsibility towards the society said J Sikidhar, Chairman, RGOI, Silchar in his address.
Prof. S.B. Paul, Dean, Students Affairs, Assam University in his address highlighted the importance of the competition.
Prof Ranjan Kumar Roy, Dean Students Affairs, Kalayani University, Kalayani the representative from Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India for the programme said Youth Parliament Programme helps in removing deficiencies and develops imaginary power about new issues among the students. For successful functioning of the parliamentary democracy, the people ought to know the methods and manners in which the parliamentary institution. The knowledge of process procedures and practices of these institutions can help them to come to the correct conclusion and provide meaning and strength to the system & for this the Competition will form a base.
At the end of the programme Shri Kishor Chandra Satpathy, Coordinator of the programme presented the vote of thanks. Around 100 students participated actively in the Youth Parliament Competition.
