Dekhte dekhte to world cup to ai gelo. The performance of India in NZ has surely dampened our enthusiasm. With Australia, Pakistan, England and Zimbabwe in our group, we need to beat atleast 2 of these teams to have a chance to qualify for the super six . Can India make it to the supersix ?? What do you think???

i can't agree with some of the views. Ya India's performance in New Zealand was not up to the mark...but the playing conditions there has to be kept in mind....no one will encounter such pitches in South Africa...pitches for the world cup will be true One day Pitches....where the indian batting line up will definitely come up good...no doubts on that. Even Stephen Flemming agreed that if ganguly had won more tosses in new zealand the results would have been different.
I feel what ails indian cricket is our mentality...we loose it in our minds before it actually happens...this messages conveys from india's supporters also. The spirits should be high....Whatever comes india will win this world cup...all the best from we millions of die hard fans.

Yes I agree that the pitches, and more importantly, the weather conditions in SA won't be the same as it was in NZ.The pitches in NZ have more juice and its been that way over all these years, but the undoing this time around was the excessive amount of movement off the air which was due to some very inclement weather down there.Add to that the lateral movement off the pitch due to the wickets being more soggy then usual and you have a recipe for disaster specially for Indian batsman whose skills in even normal swinging conditions are quite suspect.

In SA the wickets can be expected to have even bounce and without much movement off the air.This can be useful to batsman who like the ball coming in to the bat like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Ganguly to an extent. And Sachin should be fine anyway.But in these conditions there is one problem that the Indian batsman have always faced.....not knowing where the offstump is....hopefully our batsman will cope well.

The fans will support India no matter what....and the slogan should be "Jitega bhai jitega, India jitega" 8) 8)

Ganguly will flatten the pacers. I still remember seeing his onslaught against none other than Shaun Pollock last time!!!
In spinners dept, I feel, Kumble could have been left out in favour of Murali Kartik. Please not a new name in Aussies... Brad Hogg. Is he in the cup squad? Wow..what a Chinaman bowler!! But, the biggest worry could be political... if England and Aussies suddenly decide to call off the Zimb matches, then India could be in unwanted trouble. Zim should not have free 4 points. At Harare, India has never won against Zim....

Nah !....Brad Hogg is no good. His bowling average is 46 even in first class cricket...I don't know how he got into the Aussie team.He was recently thrashed by the Sri Lankans in Sydney with 75 runs off his 10 overs.Brad Hogg in my opinion is no better bowler then Michael Bevan who also bowls Chinaman.

There is hardly any chinaman bowler who has made a serious impact in international cricket....even the hugely gifted Paul Adams of South Africa has fizzled out(well, maybe he wasn't that gifted afterall...just his weird action managed to fool some batsman for a while) ;D

Well, I saw only one innings of Brad Hogg, so I did not know about his averages against SL. However in that one innings, the SL batsmen were in sufficient trouble against him. He was so confidently bowling his chinamans and getting sufficient turn and bounce. Remember Arnold being fooled and Mahela being bowled round his leg!

I always had a feeling that while playing Paul Adams, the batsman start laughing, so they get out!! Credit goes to Adams!!! Jhore bok more.....

I don't know why Tendulkar is not kept as the fifth bowler. In the one day format, the kind of variation the gentle man has, he can make any of those hard hitters think a lot before swinging their bats. Unless the pitch is like Srilanka, any variation less bowler, however consistent he may be in bowling wicket to wicket, would get eventually thrashed [Ganguly getting thrashed by Shane Bond!!!].

My only wish to see Shane Bond and party getting thrashed by Dada. Richard Hadlee and Martin Crowe would have to find some other topic to write on... ;D ;D

well, since long India has been one of the most unpredictable teams. So, even if India doesn't fare better in the recent times, one cannot say that it won't win the World Cup. Morever, our team is lead by the Bengal Tiger, and everyone says that no one has a better brain to that of a Bengali. So, if saurav clicks then we may once again have the World Cup.

I would differ a little. Dada does not have a captains brain like Arjuna Ranatunga or Clive Lloyd. He is very passionate, passionate about his country, really cares for the youngsters. But in this cut throat battle, one requires serpentine cool. Tendulkar and Dravid have this, but they unfortunately lack passion.

About the unpredictability of Indians [cricket team], yes, I fully agree. Anything may happen at any time. WC win is also such an event that has equal probability.

The situation can only be changed by the players, maintaining absolute discipline and professionalism in their personal life and attitude. This is Kurukshetra!! Here mother, brother, father, wife, child.. nothing exist..only the country exists. No other call is important [it happened earlier] other than winning for the country, winning to put smile into the lips of one billion people.

In Australia, in late seventies, they used to cheer... KILL'EM THOMMO......

Lets all cheer..KILL'EM ZAHEER, KILL'EM BHAJJI...KILL'EM VEERU..KILL'EM DADA

One good thing after all. No family of cricketers till super six. So no family picnic. Good move to send a psychiatrist also.

There must be a ban on sight seeing also. A professional should be a professional. When you take our money [the money is tax payers money], you have to leave everything else. No family..no sentiment.

The Aussies hit the stump quite often causing run outs. It is divulged that those people practice ONLY ball collection and throwing at stumps for hour together!!

I was watching the 2nd final between Aussies and England. It is lovely to see Bret Lee, his cool enjoyment during bowling. Quite a contrast from Shoiab Akhtar..who is always trying to prove a point forcefully.

And again that gentleman called Brad Hogg. Spinners should make people DANCE. He does that. Gets thrashed, but any moment he would get wicket.

I saw a news that the whole South African team is camping out at some mountain resort and going through various motivational and team building exercises to strengthen their psychological buildup for the world cup. They are working in earnest to erase the tag of "chokers" this time around.

Right. South Africans would try their best to get the cup this time. They are approaching the event very professionally. It is something like the management-cum-executive cadre of a MNC undergo for facing the tooth and nail competition.

I always remember Arjuna's attitude while shooting the arrow at the bird. He was only seeing the eye. The SA people are doing just that. Everything in their training schedule is just centered at one point. The Cup.

I was watching the news clipping of Sourav Ganguly speaking to NDTV.....

What a body language !!!

Forget body language!! This gentleman was talking in a funny way. He says, the team is capable of getting WC. At the same time he says we should have more all rounders. What does it signify? It signifies that the captain is not happy with the team, he is not confident on the performance.

This time it is worse than the faint mumbling of Azhar:: "we will do our best"..as promised to the PM.

The Prince of KALKUTTA, the great Royal Bengal Tiger has mewed simply..."which ever team plays better on a given day will win." This point my 10 yrs old son knows, probably my 5 yrs old daughter understands!!

Where is the thundering declaration: "My countryman, I will get you the Cup at the cost of my life"

Ganguly's face and talk only reminds me of....
1. Kareena Kapur..in Pepsi Add, : Men in Blue, just keep looking cute.

come on give the guya a break..to me it seems ganguly is damned if he does damned if he doesnot.....if he says he will do this..he is confident of tht....a section of the so called cricket lovers called him arrogant concieted and wht not..and now when he tries to be realistic...says he will give his best...trying to play down the real chances of bringing home the cup...there u jump for his throat....infact in the same interview he also goes on to say tht this team has the hunger to bring home the cup....now wht else do u want him to say...he is someone who has lead from the front and given us some of our best successes abroad in the last 12 months...he someone who gives it his all when he's out there..so no need to take snipes at him tht he's out there trying to look cute...one can always have different opinions of his tactics..but let's not question his desire to bring home the cup...and do u disagree with his comment tht we lack quality allrounders(5yrs old also wont),,,let's stand behind him and the entire team like one nation and pray for them..by all means debate n discuss each and every action of his on the field in the WC....but let's not make it a personal battle. ???..let's not fuel and forment an attitude wherien one feels ashamed to call oneself an indian or even a cricket lover liek the day i did in 1996 after the wondeful behaviour of the kolkatta crowd after we lost( or were on the verge of it) lets' follow the game like gentlemen rather than like 5yr old and 10 yr olds ..... ;D

Absolutely. If India has shown some spunk in the recent times, its because of Ganguly. Yes he is neither the perfect batsman nor the perfect captain, but if there is one guy in Indian cricket who has the guts to lead a team through the rough and tough of international cricket, its him.And he has proven this.Even his most vocal critics will give him that.

What I want to specifically point out is the Attitude.

Remember, Dada, when he fought back with his fighting attitude he started getting wins for the country. Some people called him arrogant, but that served the purpose. Captains before Dada did not have that fight back attitude, so the winning percentage was low.

The point is now, where is that attitude gone?

I would like to also point out in this forum, that since this is an Adda, even if we do not play cricket, we enjoy having hot discussion about it. It is well known that our view points are not going to decide the cricket fate of our country, but still we enjoy it. Who does not? This country of 1 Billion has so many enthusiasts. They consist of people from different walks of life. They burst crackers once a opponent country's wicket falls. Riots break out in some parts of the country when an Indo-Pak match goes on. What for? Are all these MAD people district players? They are not even book cricket players. They are common people like me who want every Indian batsman to hit sixers off Shoiab or McGrath. It is not a time pass so to say. There is a lot of hope, a lot of tension and a lot of enjoyment hidden in it. :) :)

Why do you think its gone ? Just a season ago we were hailing him to be the messiah, and now just because we have been drubbed in one series suddenly he appears to everyone to have lost his fighting spirit, his attitude is wrong and what not....eh ? The Aussies of the early and mid eighties were one of the poorest teams in international cricket...drubbed by Zimbabwe in the 1983 world cup and thrashed around by almost everybody else.But the Aussie fans did not doubt the tenacity and determination of Allan Border to deliver the goods and he did it in style by winning the world cup in 1987 and winning the Ashes back in 1989 and everything else is history after that.

Read something on the Australian team's preparations the other day....can you imagine that they are practising out-field running by tying parachutes to their shoulders so that they get a lot of wind drag and it becomes difficult to run.They are doing this to enhance their athleticism in the outfield. And Brett Lee, Andrew Symonds and a few others are clocking around 11 seconds for a 100 meter sprint.....that will put to shame some of our athletics competitors as well ;D ;D

wow..11 secs thts really something else..make them faster than any indian ever..a commentary on the fitness levels in modern day cricket and how much distance we have to tranverse to catch up...guess dont have to clock 11 secs to be gr8 cricketers..but our fitness levels and fielding levels have been abysmal to say the least in the 90s..its too much of a rollercoaster ride..i mean modern day oneday cricket are ruled by people by basically 3 factors a)first 15 overs and the damage one can do in tht( or can contain if ur fielding) b) running between the wickets and 3) fielding. we really have to be consistent in the last 2 to consistently be on top ...and deifntly need to bowl batter in the first 15 too ::) humara number kab aayega

Its actually worse for the Eastern seaboard of US.... I checked the dish network timings and telecast for all the matches start at either 2:15 a.m. or 6:15 a.m. EST. :o :o

what a glorious start to the world cup!! cant think of a befitting way to get the cup up and running...wonderful line and length bowling by pollock and ntini..then came lara...chanceless innings( lets be fair to kallis..first bowl was hardly a chance)..gr8 footwork..impeccable strokeplay...divine timing,,,just an honour and pleasure to watch it...jes showing form is temporary and class permanent( klusener underlined tht once again later tht day)..have always thought SA lacks depth in bowling....i mean after ntini and pollock..not many horrors in the attack for the batsman..players at this level shud be able to milk kallis,boje,kluesner....donald still has some fire left in him..we will surely have something from him before the cup ends...but defintly not the bowler or threat he was couple of years back... a gr8 fightback by SA....they do ahve the best late middle order and tail in the world....jes kept losing wickets at the wrong time,,,thts the nature of the game...any team wit a bit of flair on a given day can get the better of the otherside even if on paper the other side is the stronger.. ::) ..lets hope lara inspires sachin to gr8 things....dont see india winning the cup without some sachin magic.....world cup is time for the big boys to come tot he party.....so sachin..amen..please oblige ;D

Dekhailo ni khela india !!! Just "hori bol" performance !!! World Class Batting line up getting us 200+ against Holland and 120+ against Australia. With Zim getting points against Eng, we need to play really well to reach the super-six. Very very disappointing performance . If we play like this we will lose the game even to Zimbabwe.

The updates on whos performing how were done on the other message topic ... "Beta-u-reba" .. but the updates were just upto the "Canada Bangladesh match" . Was waiting for the contest to be closed (ie the India-Australia match ) ... updates will be online in a few days !!!

As for the Indian cricket team , well now we are doubtful of beating even the Zim , forget Pakistan !!!

So SA going down against NZ means one simple thing by my calculations : If Srilanka beats WI on 28th Feb, SA is out of the world cup !!! ( assuming Bangladesh, Kenya and Canada do not upset any of the big teams ) . Out of the 4 big teams , SA SRL WI and NZ, NZ won 2 of the 3 matches and are definitely through to the super six. SRL won 1 of the 1 big match, WI won 1 of the 2 and SA won 0 of the 2. So if SRL beats WI then SRL will have 2 of 3 and will be through, WI will have 1 of 3 and SA (even if it wins against SRL) will have 1 of 3.

So as WI and SA will have 1 of 3 wins , the rule "When two teams have both equal points and equal wins, the team which was the winner of the Group Match played between them will be placed in the higher position." will mean that WI goes to the Super Six and the favourites SA will be out of the world cup !!!!!

Lets pray that we do not need such nasty calculations for India ::)

pretty impressive performance on the field by the indians !!! But batting definitely needs to improve ... Ganguly Mongia Yuvraj ... all these were unimpressive . Ganguly was irresponsible to go out on the last ball of the over when he knew that the next over was spin . God knows Mongia was doing . He should learn from Taibu on how to get singles !!

finally! some oxygen to the long suffering indian cricket fans in 2003...albeit a victory against ZIm shouldnt have been much to talk about..but the way we had been playing last few weeks..gosh even namibia wud have been a struggle..the performance in newzealand seems to have left a scar on all the batsmen's psyche...only sachin and to an extent sewhag look like playing anywhere near their natural game..guess the self belief isnt there after those abmysal scores in NZ...something like the miandad six in sharjah in 1986,,it took the indian team about a decade to come out of the psycholgical edge which pakistan seemed to have everytime the two teams meet ...hope our heros dont decide to go in slumber for tht long this time!! :( hope the fact they managed 250 plus this time does propel them to greater things...and for insiparation dont have to look any further....can watch videos of symonds,fleming, gibbs playing the innings of thier lives...
bowling and fielding were upto the mark....lets hope we mantain the standards there....against pakistanis have to get the batsman to fire...initial excahnge of blows wud be crucial...if we manage 8-9 overs without losing wickets even if not too many runs ont he board we shud be ok ..but if we r like 3 down for next to nothing..wud be diffuclt to rise from that...the onus wud be on the big guys sachin rahul ganguly...and i think its a mistake rite now not to play kumble..we need his expereince in tight situations ...and it isnt as if bhajji is running through the opposition( though not bowling badly) so if we go with one spinner..kumble shud be the man......lets go out all guns blazing....lets fight till the last ball (as sachin said) .....history is witness...no war is won by jes dying like martyrs..lets fight to win :)

I was watching the replay of India Zim match. The fact what really made me feel good is not the Indian win, but the guts of Ashish Nehra. He was consistently bowling above 140 Km/hr, and mostly 146, and the highest 149.6 or so. Uh.. a little more grit, and he would have touched 150. It delighted me, because in the caption on the screen, before his overs started, he had been introduced as a medium pacer!

Come on Nehra.. show the typical Delhi mind like Sehwag. Go for the above 150 mark..let the world call you a FAST bowler, not a fast medium bowler or medium pacer.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match between IND & ENG. Hopefully it will rain today sometime, so that the match between PAK & HOL is called off. That'll doom pakis. And hopefully India goes to the Super Six. And in at least one match Sourav Ganguly gets the MoM coz that will fetch me a bottle of Johnie Walker Black Label ;). So eagerly looking forward to that.

great performance by India! nehra was revelation..genuine pace..swing in the air and off the pitch..and above alla great length and line all throughout..something which has been lackin in his cricket always..discipline... once again underlining his ability..jes needs to be nurtured and become mentally strong..does seem lost in the field soemtimes...ponderous is the word...one shudnt take anything away frm khan and srinath..they provided the impetus...took srinath 10 yrs to understand where to put the ball in oneday cricket..but he's finally getting there ;D ..and zaheer is absolutely world class but batting still hs few chinks....nothin much except from sewhag n sachin...dravid is getting there...but ganguly has to get to his flowing best and tht too fast....mongia is a mystery rite now ...batting without any sense of purpose...and not haivng the 5t h specialist bowler can be costly as flintoff made it plainly apprent...but ganguly's reluctance to try sachin even for one over is baffling..know there were seamer freindly conditions but when flintoff was going gr8 guns..he cud have brought sachin on instead of himself..sachin has more variety and it was worth the risk...i mean we had nothin to lose...talkin of conditions funny to here the commentators keeping on harpin on how imp the toss was and how heavily it is weighed in favor of the bowlers in the second half...there was no talk of conditions when flintoff was hittin the blazing shots....i mean ya ondiions do pla
