Just curious at the poor performance of students from Silchar and other places in Barak in national level exams like IIT , CBSE ..IAS .. No need to mention , there would be no dearth of talent ..but something is definitely wrong..the success rates truly reiterates this fact . I think one of the major contributor to this might be lack of confidence. Any more suggestion guys .. |

Hi! I am not talking about the one or two exceptions. I am taking the generic scene out there. I am also someone from that part of our country. So I kind of know a little bit about silchar and its poeple. As I have already pointed out lack of confidence .. I have observed some other related things ..
1. Students suffer from proper knowledge about the exams. Most of the times they are afraid. They don't have a clear conception what they should do to get through. 2.And the most important one might be the teachers themselves. Most of them suffer from poor concepts and so can't really help the students that much with competevie exam problem solving. thanks |

you are pretty right sekhar....I mean lack of confidence fuels from the lack of exposure.... the syllabus of AHSEC is quite divergent from the ones taught in other parts of the country.....this is not to say that trhe AHSEC syllabus is not at par with the rest of the country's...infact it is better than a lot many states' syllabi....but the whole point remains that our syllabus stresses more on subjectivity ...than on objectivity...the entire education system that we go through in assam ...right from day one in our kindergartens till the day we do our bachelors...revolves around knowledge gathering rather than the application of that knowledge...as a result we lose our power of thinking on the spot...I mean we sometimes find it extremely difficult to think quickly without giving much time to it...so in a sense I feel that our education system actually limits our faculties of the mind and to a certain extent hinders the development of it ...inhibits our achieving of the self actualizing potentials. The examinations you were talking about...the real big ones....say IITs...IIMs, XLRI...all these focus more on the application of knowledge rather than on the gamut of it...and ofcourse on lateral thinking ...and thinking on the spot...ofcourse an education system alone does not inculcate all these prowess onto you...but they can certainly hinder your stride towards these...through our developmental and impressionable age...we are exposed to a system that forces us to broaden our range of knowledge without ever stressing on the applicability of these...the ones who secure a position in HSLC ...or in HSSLC are hailed as the best students in the valley...no doubting that...but dont we think a majority of them lose out when they move onto the national arena? the ones who actually beat the wind out of the students from the other parts of the coiuntry...actually are the aberrations...and not the generality...they do that despite the education system and not because of it. the other problemm ofcourse is the lack of exposure...the students in the valley...hardly get any exposure...any indication of the competition outside the state until they have reached a certain state...and till then the system already has moulded them onto itself and corrupted away half of their chances of a superior mental development.... sekhar...I think this discussion that you have started is best suited for the main room...and as such I am putting this message on the main room also...see you there and am sure the rest of the valley will have a lot to comment on this...all are welcome. |
