I am an ex student of G.C. college and I am proud of it and I am requesting to all present and ex GURUCHARANIAN please
give your comments about our famous college under this topic.

its good to hv a platform like this for the gcian. yeah i miss college, that "kathal gaach" ???
"library veranda", :-X vivek sweets" :-* "splendour" :D"udyog" and everything .
those sweet days won't come back again , the only thing we can do is just ponder upon them,
i miss the moment of bunking from class ???
shortage of attendance and managing them anyhow ;)if i am asked to provide one word for gc college i would say it "gr8'
anyway this much for today

I am happy by reading your letters.I was a student of
chemistry dept.one of the best dept. of G.C.C. I cant forget
the Evergreen KARUNA da and his all time hit actings, I also
dont forget great BIDHAN-da and his "do one expt. and get
common in exam" policy.
Bahute bahutta koin ,kintu sobor katha kano lain na.

for introducing the topic.
Lots of people passing from gc college, get chanace in R.E.C
or S.M.C. and after geting chance they try to compare G.C.C.
with their institutes and try to criticise gc college.While comparing they should be aware of the fact that they are
comparing a R.E.C. with a general college. Why dont they compare Silchar R.E.C. with other R.E.c.s or IITs of the country or they afraid of doing so.
At last I can say U G.C.C. is going with its full glory, and
we R very hopefull to our college,which is one of the best
college of Assam.

Sanchita and jui,thanks for writing.sanchita U have made
some good coments and jui U have really remind me those
wonderful days of gc college. about birthday parties I can
still remembar that always U(girls) two-three peoples used
to give your B'day treat combinely, and we realy had to think
how to mannage the gifts for U.Anyway I really miss those
B'day parties and also wish to join similor get together in
future.
Let me to know wheather Ranjit bhat sir is still in the
principal's chair.

Hi Angshuman/Rumela/Sanchita,

You guys are doing a great job. In fact I almost lost touch with Silchar and GCC after 94 (when I passed out). I was a chem hons student too!! When I left Rani madam was the principal. These days I am in New York.

Good to read about GCC from the next gen GCites. The kathal gach there it seems has acquired historic proportions.

Thanks for starting this topic !!! GCC is great - it leaves a lasting impression in your mind ..... I was in Silchar for just 3 yrs - for my TDC... but I can never forget those days.

Keep up the good work.

and present gcans to raed so much of letters under the topic.
I took my admission in G.C.C. in 1996 in H.S. and i left the
college in 2001 after passing B.Sc. In these 5 yrs I got many
people in the principle's chair.On the same date in 1996 our
our freshers welcome and Rani mams farewell meeting was
solemonised.After that We got Shrimonto Dutta sir and
Churamony sir asPrincipal incharge then Dr. P.N.C. became the
principal and after him now Ranjit Bhatt sir is the principal(ic)
of G.C.C.
G.C.C. re khub miss kori. Sabe jodi ourakam G.C.C.'r kotha
lekhte thake te khub bhal lagbo.

Its Mrs. Anita Issarani (nee Bhattacharjee). Good to see so many responses from such a wide range of people .... the new and the old generations.
PNC sir used to teach us integration ...
I don't know if anyone of you ever attended Bimal Sinha sir's chem classes ( I guess not as he retired in 93). Those used to be real eventful ones.
I used to stay in GCCGH. Have they added any new buildings in the college? Any additions in the chem labs? When we were in 3rd yr., the teachers used to say that they would get a centrifuge machine for the 3rd yr students soon as we used to do that manually and it used to take a long time.
Is JCM sir still there in chem?
What are the changes in Silchar?

Thanks for participating. Some people wants to know some
information about G.C.C. here it is--
About the library baranda I thing U r talking about the old
one, i think u dont know that the Library has shifted to a new
building in the oditorium hall and about principal i have written
in my previous letter.
No, there is no additional building in G.C.C.G.S. but the chemistry lab has centrifuge machine.

arree ita to ekebare narir tan er moto bisoy...aha gc college...dui bosor bahot bhala katse...1993 -1995 most of you must not have been there then...GC college was mesmerising with the milieu...everyone was charged up...bahot panga...bahot masti...the basis for some of the most valued friendships and relations was formed in those two years...a bond that has never grown weak with time...after all those were the formative years...just out of the impressionable age...and stepping into the broader spectrum of life...bad habbits got picked up...later realisation dawned...some of the bad habbits got shunned as well...all in all memorable years...the gallery and some very good teachers...some very good faces...some very sweet heartaches ;D ;D ;D...and of course some very very sweet nothings...thanks for igniting this thread...bahot bhala laglo

ami abhijit be.kita re shaap tui dekhi boro writer hoi gesos. kita re iit giya msc'r shonge journalism o kor re ni na ki. jaauk jeta houk na kene tor article ita poriya bporo moja laglo. shei je g.c. colleger din r firiya aiito nae. i miss g.c. and all the g.c.ians a lot. in 3 years of my grad. this college has given me so many things which in my entire school life i didnt get. you have provided such a good platform for all the gciian's to express their feelings about g.c.college and specially g.c.colleger maaia hokolr nekami. barit sylheti mat te mat te shesh r college a aite hi o mai re mai kelu. ei ki korchhish, kothaye jachish etc. right now i m 2500 km away from silchar, sitting at delhi working for motorola, but reading all these articles i felt as if i m in silchar, sitting at komu da,s dukan,eating porotha and ghugni and listening to lamba lamba lectures of our college's mahaan mahhan bidwan.bye for now

We tried our level best for Majlis Election but in our five years college time we have heard some void commitments from our college management. You guys are really making a history. I will write latter on how much we straggled for election.

from different generation but one thing we got common our alma matter is same. We may not have common memories but we are proud of our college. Life long we will be bearing the sweet memories of GCC. Mr. BZ. your post is really a unique one. I think that you are the antique one here not Anitadi .I am waiting to here from Mr. .BZ about ‘Lendu babu’ . I have heard about him. What made him so gr8.??

hey,it's a real good topic.anyone,from physics department??do u remember the various activity during lab.exam.i remeber,during 2nd year of B.Sc one of my friend somehow managed to shortcircuit the connection of lab.,so that external sir can not varify the readings.because,experiment reading were manipulated.we used to decide beforehand,who is going to do which experiment during exam.better not to write anymore,otherwise.............anyone aware of these activities??

I'm Rupak telling my experience about G.C. college.... 8)yeah that's the time when me and my near and dear friends who were with me in the same section used to bunk :P most of the classes and like to stand in the library varanda where our eyes were set on each and every gals of the road below ::). We used to sit in cycle stand also to enjoy the students(...most of the time gals) and and the college campus ...and the trees ....and the Trade Mark of everything :-X "jo sab college se juraa hua tha". And the :o"adda" in Bibek Sweets inside or in outside....it's all the " Golden Yaaden of our college" which can't be forgotten. So always keep on updating this "adda" sesssion. :-*

Thanks for the nice words. Due to some sickness I am home and open net 'hokal aar bikaal'.
The time period I belonged to is around 70s. I think you all did not have Lukuda. His teashop was right in front of science gallery. I started my first 'bidi' there. I hope somebody will contribute few tributes to Lukuda. My eldest cousin [about 15 years older] talked about him when I was in school. When finally I became gician, he was still there, and he served few more generations afterwards. Other biggies of our time was D Dutta. Mihir Dutta was bridge between oldies and newcoms. I remember few bearers of science stream - Akhilda, Karunada, Brojenda, Troymbok, then in biology Satyada, Narayan. Librarian G Dutta was another pillar. Even before that we got Bonobehari Babu a/k/a Bono babu. In our time depositing tuition fees was a 'lechhra kaam'. We would shout from outside 'Bonore! aar cha khaaish naa baba'. He would get mad and push out his teacup thru the window.

Opened the site after a long time and I'm so happy to see a lot of '' BEST WISHES for the GCC'' mentions. I spent five years in the GGCBH(1989-94) which was one of the best time I have spent so far.. Took a break for few days. Both of my boys were sick.

Somebody mentioned about GCCBH. When we were students, HS was Shashanka Bhattacharjee. He was very strict super. He was from English deptt. I remember once, we had a class in R 2. We were waiting for our teacher to come. Suddenly we heard a commotion in front of H2. We ran out to see what had happened. We saw a boy "gaal hataiya aste aste jar giya". We saw Shashanka Sir standing there. We asked "Sir kita hoichhe ?". Sir e koeelya "Ou chheletai ekta maiyar loge beshi misti koriya mat-te gechhlo. Teu ami tare shikhaiya dilam kirokom koria mat te lage".
He had many such stories. After him was JRC. Then KB.
Then I donno who was.

Hi to everybody :o

How are you all ? Abhijit You wanted to know about me.Nothing special about me I am a simple economcs graduate of 1999 from G.C. College . after that I am in b'lor.I have done some computer related course and masters in Advertising and Public Relations.
Now I am working in a software company as a programmer here in b'lore .And If you see me I am sure you would able to recognise me 'coz i was engaged with all the cultural and political activities during my college time.
Hay, I am going to silchat after One and half year.I booked my ticket for 3rd june.You know some time I really feel homesick and i feel like escaping from this hustle bustle life and going to 'Santir dip Borak".Silchar is the best place in the world for me.I do believe this .I miss all those days spent with my college mates and offcourse days which i spent with some scio-cultural activities.That was the best part of my life.I know I can not travel back to those days but I can at least enjoy by recalling all those days .That's why I try to share my feelings with you guys ang get some relife from alldays routine work. So try to contribute somthing interesting here.

It's nice to hear that after 10 years of gap"Purbasree" Has seen the light of the day.
I was so eager to see my write up on this magazine that i have submited my write up to the prof-in-charge of college magazine and told her to publish my write up as a ex-student. The name of the write up was "Kathal gacher kachhe khula chitti"( A open latter to kathal gachh)!!
I do not know whether it's published or not.

A few days I was out of Town, fishing in a lake. It was good to hear that GCC mag is out after 10 years. Congrats editorial people!! It is amzing that GCC is getting uniform. In our time there was a talk of uniform, but we all refused. In our time exams were real challenges. Big dadas of our time [now old men], created lot of storms in the campus. Do police still vigil the college during exams?
Once during our B.Sc., exam the botany paper was very very tough; that means nobody could answer one. So we were allowed to sit in one room, and consult one another. In the meantime one bright fellow went out and got his text book. Our invigilator was not pleased, but seeing the general situation he kept quiet. The boy flipped the pages one after another, but could not even locate his answers. Finally he got up and went to the teacher and said,"Sir, answer kichhchhu khujia paitram naa. Amare boita ektu dagaiya dein naa. Pash mark or beshi lagto naa". Rest I leave to your imagination.

Hi all,

Someone wrote a small recent-info about GC. It will be a nice idea to post some weekly or monthly info about our favourite college. Could someone write about Boys' hostel and Girls' hostel too ? I spent 5 yrs in the BH. Prof. Bijit Choudhury (History) was the Superintendent during that period. I still remember his eyes through his "CHASMA" and his very special look towards the hostellers in the evening during his daily visit. He was very swift to open the doors.......
The saraswati pujas in the hostel were a great fun..I enjoyed every bit of those moments..

Long time since I had written anything, anyway how r you all.
Well Debabrata its a good effort 2 collect the memories and refresh them.Ipassed out in99 B.A(English), nowadays I m doing Diploma in MassCom and Journalism(Correspondence) and a 2 year course in Higher Diploma In System management from APTECH which is basically .Net Technology and I love listening to Jagjit Singh, reading Sydney Sheldon, Danille Steele and many others and also watching cricket.

Hi all :D! I am also a Gurucharian....(1999 physics hons batch) and felt really good to read about our 'priyo' college again. This has freshened up my memories and I was living that life once again when I was going through all the memories shared by you all.... I could never find in my life some one like Jadab babu (ei hashi shai hasi noi)....and would never see a physics lab like our GCC lab...(all instruments were half broken)... Those were the golden period of my life. :)

Thanx for reminding me to write. I have been little busy with my job. In three days I covered 1800 kms. I am glad to hear JCM is new princi. He is a nice person. Sad to hear JRB and few others retired. Nobody writes about zoology and Botany deptt.
Debu, in this country the pressure of work is too high. So we have to go out for 1-2 days for fishing or something. After fishing, 1 day I spent skit shooting. After shooting 100 rounds of 12 bore shotgun, I felt I lost my shoulder. Debu I did my MA in cinema - massmed. Then 1 in biochem. I did too many things. Nothing special so far.
Angshu where are you now and what do you do?

I think the basic difference between westerns and us is that we do not know how to spend time productively. They have the concept of weeked, outing all these but we do not have all these concept.They earn money for enjoy their life but we earn money to just live a life.Nothing adventurous nothing spicy.And one fine day we discover that 'amaderke hari bol koyia loyagitache' ha ha ha ha........

Debu, creativity is something which will find its way anyway. Creativity is first selfish, most people write /create for his/her satisfaction and then rest of all enjoy. My film direction teacher who was director for five full length features
used to say "creativity is, what will compell you to recreate something that would bring out same feelings and emotions, you enjoyed in the original situation among the audience". I am nearing half century yet waiting for something big.

Dear Beezee,

I do agree with your film direction teacher's view.I think being creative is seeing the same thing as everybody else but thinking of something different.It's really a subjective matter.For example, Gutenberg took the wine press and the die/punch and produced a printing press. so, a simple definition of creativity is the action of combining previously uncombined elements. From art, music and invention to household chores, this is part of the nature of being creative. Another way of looking at creativity is as playing with the way things are interrelated. Creativity is the ability to generate novel and useful ideas and solutions to everyday problems and challenges.
some great people says everyone of us are born to be creative, are born to have unlimited potential for creating new things but why some of us just live our life like ordinary people ( like ponero ana of Tagore) and just wonder to the crativity of others? Some time i just hate my limitation of imagination.You know day by day i am realising that i am losing my those " Obak hobar kmomota" "amar shopno dekar khomota".My dreams were so wild but day by day i am finding a wall around it.Is it true for everyone? a belated shubhonababarsha to all of you. i could not wish you all before as i was out of station.there is no gcc specific info as the college is closed.the other reprts are-
1. the teachers are going on strike from the 22nd of april because of a 15% cut in govt. grant to colleges.
2. we are planning an exclusive gcc website. the teachers understand or know very little about internet.so it will be very difficult.any help from all you people will be welcome.
3. though i do not know much about zoo or bot. deptts.,but a zoology seminar cum exhibition was held last december.their deptt mag was also released.

Friends i was in GCC from 1996 to 2001, and since 1996 the GENERAL STUDANT BODY is not forming in GCC. can i bring ur attention about the facts that, is there any necessaty to form the general student body in GCC ? If yes , then why it is not forming?Wheather students ,Principal or governing body is responsible for this.

your valuable opinion regarding the formation of college union is really nice. this year we formed our separate arts forum and did a few programmes. but fund crunch is a real impediment.we need 'majlis' for getting the money meant for students. i believe i will be able to give you some good news about college majlis within a few weeks.

its rather unfortunate that none of us noticed the wrong spelling of college written at the top for so many days.

Sometimes these powercuts reminds me of Silchar and the exam times when we had to study inspite of the powercuts and our dear mosquitos and the hot whether, but now I feel that that times were golden ones inspite of the hectic routine. Really "Gujra huaa zamana aata nahi dubara, hafiz khuda tumhara". ??? :-[

Dear all,
Looks like summer has started its full blaze. Feel sorry for Abhisek and Debjani. Hope rain starts soon and Delhi becomes cooler. Drink lots of 'nimbupaani', avoid fizzy drinks; it is found here that fizzy sodas leaches away calcium from bones. Do they use 'sunblock' back home ? It helps.
GCC needs a majlish for the student body. In our time college election was as colourful as it can be. Some candidates used to build 30feet high signs. There were lots of foods and lectures and canvassing. There were prizes for best poster, best slogans etc. And there used to be lots of fighting. Candidates spent much time in hiding.
Angshu, hope your trip goes fine.

Hi GC-ians !

I must say that when I read all these messages under this special platform, I feel soooo good. It's quite a long time since I left the college(1994) after spending a fantastic 5 yrs there. I tell you an interestng incident during my early days ( 2nd yr. HS) in GC. I was ragged neither in the hostel (GCCBH) nor in the college when I first started my schooling there. SO I was very eager to see the raggers ::) At the beginning of the 2nd yr classes, once a few seniors (TDC 2nd/3rd yr) were enjoying ragging with a beautiful young girl who just stepped into the college. I thought of sharing their enjoyment too (I was qualified ! 2nd yr. HS student ;)). All of a sudden one tall guy appeared and started shouting..... '' amar boin re ke ragging kore ?.........'' and within minutes shoutings started from every corner of the room. I was so afraid that I started running towards the hostel. It was a very bad feeling on my part, because I just wanted to see(crazy!) what they do and what they ask! But it was a great lesson for me!

Abhisekh, I finished my B.A(english) IN 1999, and I didn't forget my school days even today my heart aches ::) :'( for all my childhood memories in which SCS plays a vital role becoz school is a place from where we taste the actual flavour of life mixed with some khatti and meethi yaaden, they accompany us through the entire life and later on we feel really those were the golden days.I love you SCS, I love you GCC and I miss you all. :'(

i had a great holiday in gangtok and darjeeling.here teachers' strike is going on as a result of which the practical exams have been postponed.we the students have are also gearing up for struggle. we have formed a barak valley students org. for ensuring that the exams are conducted and the results are issued on time.we will have a procession to the DCs office tomorrow.

Dear GCCians,
Sorry to hear about teachers' strike and delay of examinations. Hope things will improve, and exams will be completed. Students' parents should form a forum and present their grievances to CM and education minister. Those who will try for SMC/REC or other places, they definitely will suffer. Colleges will not wait for them and desiring candidates will have to forget their plans. So something should be done now. In the past also, there were occassions like that and ultimate sufferers were students.
People generate public sympathy through canvassing or writing.

I am posting this message from silchar. Here Net connection is very slow. And charge is also very high but this situation is improving .I used to browse for Rs.150 per hour two years back. But now a days cyber cafe is really a common thing in silchar.( i have heard that there are more then 70 cyber cafes are here in silchar.)That is really nice. But the thing is that how efficiently we are using it. Net is really a "shob payechir desh" to me.

Yes, teachers strike is going on here, I think this time teachers are fighting for a genuine cause.We should support them.

I am enjoying my holydays here and as said by Angshu missing my office PC .

thanks for the overwhelming response of the ex gcians about the teachers' strike. our procession was a thumping success with good participation from the students.though an OC of the police created trouble by threatening to lathi charge and he also used offensive language.

Mr. BZ, If you meant SC as in South Carolina, then I guess I am your neighbour :) I live in NC. And yes, I am an ex-GCian.....did my HS from GCC.

Actually visited the college this year after a long time, when I was in Silchar in January.There was a seminar on Astrophysics being held in the Physics department.

Now I want to tell something to all the GCians that frequent this message board.

There is an initiative being undertaken by some of the faculty and ex-alumni of the college, to build a separate science building for the college, with all the latest state-of-the-art labs and all the bells and whistles of a modern day science department. As everybody is aware that the science departments are in much need of new labs and a major facelift.The current lab equipments and the building that houses them, are all in a pretty dilapidated condition and are all from the old days without ever being changed or enhanced since they were first built.I have with me all the details of the plans etc. If anybody is interested to know more, please email me at "hrc@silchar.com".There is a lot of work that needs to be done to make this a reality and it includes a lot of PR to begin with.

Its our college, and we should work for its development instead of waiting for somebody to do it.

Hi all GC'ans!
I am from Silchar and studied in Kulada Sundari Pathshala, Durgashankar Pathshala, Public High School & finally joined G.C.College after Matriculation in 1961, the famous year of "Bhasha Aandolan".
Unfortunately, I was a student of GCC only for about six months and left the college and Silchar in January 1962. I joined Naval Engg College in Lonavla(Maharastra) and completed engineering.
Since then I had been in Western India, namely Bombay & Ahmedabad till 1994.
'94 to '97, I was in Nairobi, Kenya & since March '98, I am in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A., working in a private firm as a senior quality control engineer.
It really gives me a great pleasure to see you all taking so much interest in GCC and spending good deal of your time in writing in 'Maha Adda'.
Though I was in GCC for a very short period, I did enjoy the time to the fullest possible.
I was in India last Sept-Oct(2001) but had a very short vacation and was in Calcutta for only 6 days. Wanted to visit Silchar but to our bad luck that day the flight to Silchar did not land due to bad weather and had to come back.
I am now planning to visit India in Feb-March 2003 and will surely make it a point to visit GC College to see the changes in last 40 odd years!
Will let you guys know my contacts in Silchar later.

Dear Bijitbabu,
You are the senior most in this page. It is a great welcome. I thought I was the oldest among all young people, but now I feel relieved. I joined GCC in 69. Then GU in 74. Now I am in SC for about 6and half years in two instalments. But most probably have to leave for UK this year for long term.
From you we can hear a lot of history of Silchar, during bhasha andolon. Thanks for the numbers, I'll try to call sometimes. Hope everything is fine with you. We greatly look forward to hearing from you.

That's what probably my sister told me once. DO you miss your hostel ? I still miss the fantastic atmosphere we had in GCCBH. And I miss ANilda's '' MACHHOR JHUL'' . And four-five counted pieces of chicken every sunday.
And probably I will keep missing the Saraswati Pujas, we had in our hostel. There was a different life in everything we did there. Does anyone know how the Boys' Hostel is keeping these days ?

Good to see your message. Send me your personal mail ID and all other details - where are you , what are you doing. I am in Delhi these days , just back after spending one and a half years in the US. I am planning to move to Bangalore in a couple of months.

Well, the best part of the Saraswati Puja was the healthy competition between GCCGH and GCCBH .... right from the decoration to the menu !!!

And I still remember that on 15th August and 26th january only we (the GCCGH and GCCBH students ) used to go to the college early in the morning to sing the national anthem !!!

Aasha kori shob bhala aaso.Finally the Admission process is about to start.this year Arts fees for 2nd and 3rd year has shot up to Rs.1431 and Science fees is about Rs.1900.Even the prospectus and form costs Rs.40. Uniform will compose of A shirt of sandalwood colour and pant of dark Chocolate colour.aamra jara last year ee dress loiya boro jhamelat porsi.tumra shobor kopal bhala aasil.
This time only 31 students got 1st division in H.S 2nd year results and 2 of them got star marks.Ramanuj College took away all the honours.

Hello GCCians,

I am a 1994 BSc pass out - the first batch of AU. Can anyone tell me as how can I get my degree certificate? Actually I left Silchar right after receiving my marksheets and never received my degree later. I had written a few letter addressed to the Principal of GCC but to no avail.

Can anyone please guide me as what needs to be done for that - or is it possible at all to get it now?
