Students in Barak Valley boycott classes
SILCHAR, Aug 13 — Students of all the colleges of Barak Valley, REC, Medical college, ITI, Silchar Polytechnic and the university on Monday boycotted their classes to register their protest against the irregularities of Assam University and the suicide of Saraswati De. It can be mentioned here that Saraswati De, resident of Hailakandi Road in Silchar town, committed suicide last when she failed to score pass marks in every subject. The members of NSUI, ABVP, AASU and other student organizations, also gave a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University mentioning the plights of students and threatened to launch Barak Valley-level agitational programme against the irregularities by Assam University, particularly pertaining to irregularities in mark-sheets. The students held the Assam University authority responsible for the suicide of Saraswati De, a student of GC College in Silchar.

Can we all the Student organizations sue the University for indirect murder?
University should be held responsible for this. This is a very serious issue.

this is outrageous that the university which is the result of a long dream of barak valley, for which people let down their lives is now claiming lives after the dream came true. why? what went wrong? we know that there are competent people today who are running this uni but why r they failing? why the organisations which fought for this uni to be set up r silent today? why the general people r keeping silent? i do not support the act of suicide, she should have lived & fought against it if she thought that she was treated unfairly. but then there r so many stories we know about where students r geting marks for exams they havent appeared & no marks in which they did. lets only hope that this university of our dreams do not take any more lives & would fulfill the promises it made for the society as a whole & students in particular. |

At that time, I was in Holycross, very much involved with ACKSA..but Assam University cud not live upto the expectations..it has turned out to be otherwise! I know people who bought ma....It pains but I alone cannot do anything practically speaking, & do not who all are really interested but believe me, feel like.. |

it's not a surprise incident...these are ought to happen...earlier when we were the student of g c college we also got same treatment from A.U. ....
outside north east there is no mention of assam university....people here in delhi knows guwahati university and tejpur university but they never heard about assam university because of very very bad quality of the university.
tejpur university's fame is quite good here in delhi....
it's sad that assam university is going down....
we need a strong leader to run the university...there is so much of potitics by the present vice chancellor and its group in the versity...
it's time to protest and through out these people from the campus
