Let's dedicate this thread to our intelligentsia (in a broader sense), to those Silcharites who has made a difference. It is our chance honor our creme de la creme, those who excelled in their field and yet we are ignorantly unaware of their achievements. Our discussion on famous silcharites has reached to its saturation point. But I am sure there are a lot of hard working intelligent Silcharites around globe who are busking in the glory of their success. Let's bring them to limelight. I am sure they will be an inspiration to all of us. It could be something like publishing something in a renowned journal like MIT press, Harvard Business review or a poem in Desh patrika (not just limited to these three). Won't you love to hear if someone has done some creative work like making a new sculpture or releasing a new number. I am sure you want to hear about a silcharite who is teaching in a renound institution or has made such celebrated institutiion her alma mater. Won't it be extiting to know about a silcharite who is leading a cutting edge science project? In a nutshell, any feat that is out of ordinary. Something that has crossed the confines of mediocrity. Lastly I shall politely urge you not to ridicule any post in this thread. We should rise above petty political dogma. Please make every effort not to hurt any one's ego. If you don't agree to someone's distinction then let the readers judge it. It is very easy to hurt someone while hiding behind the anonymity of the web.
I am initiating this thread by borrowing Layashyam's post.
There was a Dr. Kenoyer who used to work at the Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital at Alipur (near Banskandi). He is a legend amongst the people in that area for his contribution towards the poor and needy. Though I am not too sure whether he and the archaeologist Kenoyer are one and the same person.
I am also not too sure whether being a Professor at IIM Calcutta would enable a person to pass the litmus test of being a famous Silcharite. But we have Bani Sinha who is a Prof in Operations Research at IIM Cal and he hails from Cachar. Just FYI, he did his PhD from Wharton Univ and has published a number of research papers in leading international journals.
Though he would not win any popularity ratings amongst the students@IIMC because of his ummm "tough" gradings, workload et al but he is respected by one and all as an authority in his field.
For more information on Bani Sinha please visit http://www.iimcal.ac.in/faculty/facpage.asp?ID=baniks
|

After IITG came into being, what is the trend of Silcharites getting into IIT? I guess IIT seem much closer to home now. Amit Saha is the only guy I know who made it to IIT in recent years. |

Dear Friends, good thread, carry on. well Mr. Confused, after the IITG has started its work, i think it is influencing the students of North-East to a gr8 extend. There many students of Assam, in IITG in B.Tech., M.Tech, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Preparative courses as well. I did my M.Sc. from IITG (2001-2003). I know two persons, Sidhartha da (silchar) and Arup da (Karimganj) who have completed their Ph.D. from IITG and Rahul da (Karimganj) is presently doing his Ph.D. in IITG. Tandra, Mausumi and myself have completed M.Sc. from IITG . Dipak is in M.Sc. 2nd sem in IITG. All these names belongs to Barak Valley. I know one girl from Silchar doing her B.Tech. in IITB and so on. In recent days, many students from Ghy, Tejpur, Jorhat, Dibrugar and Manipur as well are joining IITG but the rate is quite slow in case of we students from Silchar jone. So, friends keep it up the spirit. bye angshu |

That is nice to hear. But looks like the student from Barak valley are still not showing a very good show. I think one part of it is the psychological factor. When I was in 12 class, most of us never spent enough time in preparing for IIT-JEE because the general belief was that such attempt may turn out to be a wild goose chase. Rather we tried the easier one JAT. But when there are more examples to follow, the trend may reverse. Good job Angshuman. Congratulations. |
