Hi Guyz n Galz of Silchar,
The last time I came to Silchar was bout 2 years back n there I really fell off for a gal. That day I realised that the galz out there r really goodlooking... !!! But on the contrary I have also noticed one thing that the galz there do not hav a very broad outlook ..!! But one thing which I've got to appreciate bout the galz there is that they r still holding on to their culture n I really appreciate it. I've been to Silchar a couple of times only and have seen that the girls do not come to the street half naked as it happens in my hometown - Delhi. Another thing that has pinched me is that the girls are not into sociallising like latenite partys n discos n pubs. So my question to u gayz n galz now is that if a gal from Silchar gets married to a guy who is a corporate and has to sociallise nearly every night, will the gal b able to cope up with his lifestyle and his mannerisms ? ? ? ? ? Will she b able to catch up with him in everysphere ? ? ? ? Can she handle the guy ? ? ? ?

My aim is not to sprang a quarrel over the topic but to analyse the topic and make it a point to discuss rather than to fight over. As far as a reply bout half naked galz is concerned I have appreciated that galz from Silchar are not like this. Plz do not misunderstand or misinterpret me !!!!!!!!!!

You say Delhi is your home town. Probably. But you have mis-represented the Delhi girls. Except a few of partying type, there are many who mind their own business seriously. They are extremely competitive and can struggle a lot.

As far as you are concerned, well I have to to pen down my observations. Did you say indirectly that you are from the corporate sector? Well my friend, your command over your English does not support you. You might have owned recently a mobile phone where you keep on typing SMS files. The syntax suggests that. Am I correct?

Never deface a language. Why to transform "girls" to "galz" and so on? And never look down on the capabilities of a boy or girl from remote areas once they land into the so called busy Metros. The corporate sector does mean dancing and partying always, and the wives of the corporate personnel need not all the time intervene into what their spouses do.

And of course a special Hi to Dr. Asitikantha Sarma. Sir as far as defacing any language is concerned, I have not defaced it and as far as my profession is concerned, I don't feel it necessary to reveal it and my command over the language is sufficient and I needn't prove it to u ! ! ! My main aim is to bring out the feelings and not to annoy anyone with this topic. And Dr. Asitikantha Sarma, one thing that I would like to point out that I m born n brought up in Delhi and have seen an environment where GALZ r the way as I have described earlier. And as far as my taking up a new cell phone connection is concerned I m a specialist in WAN networking and Satellite connectivity. I m sure that u will not like the way I have replied but I m sorry to say SIR, that u may stick on to ur age old traditions and not make this room a mess.

This war of words between an articulate doctor and a slightly linguistically challenged ;D upstart with the usual attitude and so-called embellishments of "Born and brought up In Delhi, specialist in obsecure but currently hot-sounding fields, etc.etc."

The English, I am afraid, can do with a bit of improvement;D. I think it has hurt you a bit, but I guess the Doctor has actually done you some good by pointing out your syntactical/grammatical/spell-a-tical errors ( voila ! a new word !!!! ) ;D Ah ! The myriad joys of coining a brand new word ! Now I guess I'm no more in the mood to type down a discourse on the main topic at hand...

Now don't tell me that...what was it ? Oh ! WAN networking and satellite connectivity...people have the poetic license to play around with the English language. I agree it's none of my business, but if you appear to be so sure of yourself, why don't you atleast ensure that you attain a certain level of finesse in your posts ? Surely a specialist like you should be able to do that with his eyes closed.

Hey dude,

You seem to have stired up a hornets nest! So what have we learnt here? The silcharite men are extremely territorial.

Your question is extremely subjective. Don't stereotype Silcharites. A particular woman might adjust to so called corporate culture whereas some other might not.
But remember, the best characteristic of humans is adaptability. If you love somebody and are wondering if that person would fit in your world, my suggestion would be to pose that question to the person concerned.
If you go by example then I must tell you that some of my classmates, who went to school with me, seem to be doing pretty well in Delhi.

I am starting to feel sorry for Mr C. Dude and think this has all erupted into a group attack only unified by the manner in which a question was proposed. Obviously the style of writing was supposed to be down to earth but instead people chose to be offended. Also, there is no relevance to Mr. Dude's profession to his original question and trying to start a verbal fight may be amusing to some it is not to others. If you really feel strongly about Mr. Dude's approach to a "chat room discussion" then start your own room!!!! Personally i believe the original question is stereotypical and marriage or dating should be for love and with true love all obstacles can be conquered!

BTW I admire Mr. Dude's COOL in not retaliating!

Has it ever occured to you that all the rich languages around the world, ours included have grown because some people somewhere coose to distort to change. That which you interpret as uneducated distortion is nothing but a language going through its natural cycle of Change. Has it ever been of interest to your intelectual curiousity that the human race which started with very few sounds in its mouth, has today millions and zillions (Another distortion) of words in its collective vocabulary. How did that come to happen, if he did not choose to change and distort.

As a Man of science I am sure you will agree that some things should be allowed to take their natural course.

In all humility my point is that while we should not forget the past, we should in no case resist the present and the future.

Though this is out of line with the theam of the room I would surely appriciate a reply from my friend in reason Dr. Sharma.

You are correct. The different languages and dialects evolved as a result of making the core spellings and pronounciations adapt to the anatomical, enviornmental and geographical properties of the populace. Those are or rather had been done to make a language more user friendly. You would notice that colour in the UK is color in the US. The pronounciation did not change. Alternatively, spelling of SCHEDULE is same in both the lands, whereas the pronounciations are different.

These changes are all accepted by the different dictionaries.

Transforming GIRLS to GALZ is doing two things at a time, ie. changing spelling as well as pronounciation both, and the purpose of providing more comfort to the tongue or brain is not served. You would not find its entry into any Dictionary.

I raised a pointed objection with the intention of snubbing the statements smelling of a depreciative attitude towards young ladies from Silchar just because they are from a remote corner of the country. I got the smell from the usage of the different words in the text.

But the reason why I wrote the message was not to defend c dudes point of view, but to express my views on a subject I felt strongly about.

You are right when u say that convinience plays a role in the choice of our words and how we pronounce them. However Convinience is by no means the only differentiator which gives rise to new words and variations of old words. Taste also plays a role. different people have different tastes.

Also I do not agree that languages and words are changed in order to make it more user friendly. In order to ilustrate my point, let us assume that there were in some corner of india a group of people who conversed in Prakrit the ancestor of Bangla, Would they find it more convinient to speak in bangla. I understand that you will say times have changed, circumstances are different and so on........ However we must ponder over the fact that often words are changed just in keeping with a trend or with an attitude. For example, what purpose of convinience does it serve to pronounce sho as ho as we selehetis do. We do that just because that has turned into a habit. But how did the habit come to be in place, it was because some people some where as a result of their geographical seperation from the mainland bengalis, and as a result of mixing with other races, started to pronounce words differently, not all of a sudden, some one else pronounced some other word differently, and a new trend was born. I wouldnt like to go into the detailed mechanics of what a trend is and how it comes to be, but I am sure you will understand what I mean when I say trend. Very soon the trend became a dialect.

Languages are not static entities (that would be the dream of the publishers, they wouldnt have to revise their dictionaries every year) New trends are born every day as circumstances change. And even as we speak circumstances are changing. With the coming of this very effective medium, and its wide spread use by young people, a lot of new words and variations of old words came to be about, a new english dialect is being born, (lets call it "Net english"). And let me clearify here that much of it is happening because the net is being used overwhelmingly used by young people. The young have allways been and still are the harbingers of change.

Obviously a entirely new and parallel set of culture is evolving, we cannot any longer stick to any one one culture. I am a typical golir chele when I go home, a highly artificially hardnosed execucitive when in my job environ, and a netizen when on the net. I am sure you are doing the same in your own life. That is our strength, to adjust to different cultures at the same time without getting confused.

True as we put on age, even our famous indian ductility takes a beating, and often we become slightly more rigid and changes begin to hurt our sensibilities. But the dialect of the netizins is here to stay. And people like you and me would better take a new look at it.

:) Just refer to Delhi Times of 9th July....there is a survey regarding how the delhites push forward their career.According to it,20% of the girls admitted that they have shared their boss' bed to secure promotion....and so on.And it is a usual practice among the literetti & hi-societywalahs to use their wive's figure and flirtitious nature to satiate the material need of their boss and get a promotion.....final a deal....get a contract...and so on.... ::)

Hi all,
I don't know why we are making such big noise over such a small thing... It's true that many people go for partying in pubs and discos but I guess any corporate will never prefer to do that in company party.. Anyone prefers to party around with friends in discos rather than with your sick boss discussing some issues.. Anyone will prefer doing that in elegant restaurants. This is my disagreement with Cool_dude.

I don't find anything wrong with the language that he uses. Why we become so emotional over it. Boss,English is afterall a alien language for us.. Will those persons who complain about defacing the language will dare to tell any australian or american on using thier own slangs.. Any language will get tuned to the local environment and that's it .. I don't know what is the bengali word for railway station. We always use the english word even though I'm speaking bengali... We always accept whatever is simple so Mr cool_dude has accepted whatever he feels simple and in no way anyone can question him...

Someone went one step ahead quoting the statistics from Times of india with dates and all... I don't believe that as it is merely a survey.. Survey is always concluded by collecting information from limited people.. These are all masalas and spices for any news magazine.....

It is so simple to answer.. Why doesn't the girl wear the kind of dresses what coll_dude mentioned is because they are not comfortable with it... Over... Anyone can ask the same question to himself.. This is very busy life and I don't know or care to know what's happening next door... Who has time for all that...

People will have different opinion and we should only express our views and not impose anything...

dont know about delhi... never been there...

but silchari girls are pretty.... there are'nt too many things about them that you cant like...

and silchar being a smaller place you get to see a girl more than once... and that does help the attraction...

i was quite against silchari girls speaking kelu... but now that i look at it again... its not just different... but pleasant as well...

Good ! keep up your display of pride/arrogance.The language you speak shows your true self under the mask of "bhadrlok" you wear outside.The girls have truly shown that they deserve praise.Their language have shown that there are infact some,like them, in our dear Silchar whom I think Mr Cool would give a penny's worth.
And , why is everyone bent upon proving Mr Cool wrong. He just says that he wants to discuss. He hasn't abused anyone, nor has he inserted the stars which are so lavishly flavoured in many's text.
And Mr Cool, to you I say, if you want a happy married life , you ought to look for a girl of Silchar but its upto you to sheave out the husk from the grains. :)

SHEAVE OUT...?

The word should be SEIVE......."Chalni" in Sylheti. "Sheave" has two different meanings.
As a verb.. it means to collect together, and as noun, it means ..the wheel with a groove on the rim.

I am a gal from silchar but at present is working in Delhi and when i saw ur query i cudn'stop myself replying u. We silchar gals know how to carry ourselve in any kind of environment whether a small place like silchar or capital of India Delhi.
