Hi,
I was from the 95-99 batch and have some great memories associated with the Second hostel where me and my friends spent 4 years, layghing and crying together.
I remember that we had started the Second Harmonic festival in our time and had come up with a notice board by the name "On Second Thoughts....". Just wanted to know if we still have this going on, or did we stop the same altogether.
Would appreciate if someone from the hostel could reply back.
Also I remember a gym on the 1st floor lobby, is it still there?

come on, let us share sweet n sour incidents of our hostel life...i'm a student of 96-00 batch....its almost 5 yrs we left REC, still I miss hostel life even today...... grand feast, cricket matches (especially against 1st hostel), hunting bakra (patha) frm Lover's Lane etc etc....plz keep this discussion alive.

ki 2nd hostel...2ndfloor boss nowdays posting messge in this forum also ...during your stay in 2nd hostel boss situation is like tht floor division 1st floor for north indian and 2nd floor for bengali ..so wht sweet memory we will discuss here ...there was so politics there tht enviroment for studies is being ruined by people i don't want to mention anyone's name and beside tht it's not the correct place to discuss all those thing ...but even then all those thing 2nd hostel is best i hope all will agree with me ...study enviroment campus placement hostel festival and even though there was difference between us even though we used to stay in a single home ..i hope this evryone wil admit.... |

first of all, if u want to be a part of this discussion, come up with ur actual identity......yes i agree to u that there was difference among students, still as a mentioned events like cricket matches, feasts, hostel fest etc we enjoyed together only...this forum is not meant for expressing personal grudges, rather to share our thoughts and memories of hostel life brother...so come on, leave ur frustration outside and join this "adda" ;D

your nature of boss till now persists gr8 man ...2nd hostel was les affected by those dirty politics of REC silchar and for tht special some people are responsible and specially from some group ..i don't want to mention the group nme or the person as it may hurt someone ..but rec is not for showing your strength it's an technical institution and regarding feats and cricket matches hardly i remember u have ever participated regarding feast ya ..goos one but our beloved mess secy and mess manager used to make hell lot of money and those people love to have it bcoz it;s one way of earning money ..and hostel festival also money making for those groups who govern the body so hardly enjoyment it's one way of making money and ultimately with this money wht enjoyment used to take place evryone knows...please i don't want to hurt . sorry if i had hurt ...supayan. |

Hello Pranab as far as Supayan is concerned wht Mr. Sup or whtever it may be had told it's not incorrect also as u people basically from Silchar and KXJ and RKN had made enviroment in hostel like tht the people sometime forget whether people come her for studying or doing gundabagi ..it's really very disgusting and one thing Pranab as far as i remember your batch and some of the poeple from your batch i don't want to mention the name here also follow the same foot steps like wht your senior showed you people ..but sorry to say if u people had made some concrete steps in developing the infrustracture and facilty of college it would have help they college then doing all those dada giri here and there |

don't worry for me boss i am working and in a reputed company and everyone of us are working in a good company it's nothing much about it ....if i need publicity i would have mentioned my name here ...but wht is fact is fact ...hostel is for study purpose boss not for any other thing ...i hope u also admit with me in this respect beside tht if college infrastructure was improved then it will help us only...nobody tried i even did not tried it ....may be we r very selfish we think of our own only tht is one of the reason for lack of development ...i know u ...u have got the capability to mould people in right direction and if u have mould them in the right direction may be something better can be done for the college ...regarding food u also know and everyone of us know wht's the reason ...but if we had inproved the food quality it in turn help us only specially (those who r not locals) ...i hope u also agree with me |

Since now you are in a reputed company may be in a good position so now what are you doing for the college or to say for any of your juniors?
No may be you don’t have time for that as all the time you are spending on scrutinizing what happened and what could be done but not what can be done.

You know one of our college seniors I had very good friendship with stopped replying to my mails once I asked for some information regarding GRE, in any case informations are now freely available in Net and at that time he was doing MS in the US but then there were seniors who gave me my first job who gave a foothold for me in a very unknown place and did there best to help me so what I want to say is that please don’t target a specific group in that way the way you mentioned in your mail and really speaking sir after 2years from college group and all means meaningless , only personal relationship matters but you may be the first person who is still remembering what happened.
About quality of food I feel it improved a lot over the 4 years and I don’t feel that any body will say that home kind of food is available in any institution of the world.
About ‘gundabaaji’ I will say I don’t remember a single instant when locals have done anyor tried to initiate
One more thing since you are anonymous and you don’t want to reveal your identity please don’t use such names as MithuR or sup_123 because being anonymous is different from using others names as shields.

Well said Pranab,
These guys are parasites. When they were in REC, they used to love and adore and have faith in us. Now that they have passed outta REC, they are tryin' to open pandora's box.
Even working for a reputed company hasn't changed his attitude and the way he looks at things. And it's really of no use to criticise Supayanda or Pranab or the Locals of Silchar.
And if u think, maybe someone somewhere has helped you in something, someone from Silchar. |

Till today, after having passed out of the college for almost a year, I am unable to understand why some individuals have so grudge against localites of REC Silchar. But one thing is sure if this REC had been in Guwahati or some other places and had this mr ANNONYMOUS who has been criticising us for a long time, been the localite then; then he would have forgotten all the SADHU BAKYA and involved in even greater GUNDABAJI ( eg. AEC, JEC, GMC etc. etc). So why should only we be cornered.

It seems that Mr MithuR is frustrated like hell for those foods in second hostel unfortunately served to him quite few years back. Man are you sure you work for a reputed company? if so , take my advice , go to some good resturant and spend some money there.

Mr. Ashish ...may be u have doubt ..but due to God's grace i am earning as much money which is sufficient for me and to feed people like u ...who made hostel mess as the source of income and nothing more then tht ...starting from mess dues to feast organisation ..u people are have only one intention how to make money ...it seems at some point of time tht u got into engg. with out knowing how much money it needs ...so better plan and do things accordingly ..otherwise u will be in a big problem ....i don't have any grudge againt any group but reality is reality boss ....and hardly boss i remember Mr. Pranab and Mr. prithvi has done anything beside tht strike in which they are the active member ... |

prithvi nani, so u r one of my batchmates. And about the strike, I was not involved in it at all, biscuit and kankan etc were involved. And maybe u should give credit to them, for the strike was successful and a hell lot of students could clear their comparts and leave REC without any compartmentals.
And one more thing, If u think I was bossing around in REC, why didn't u object to that, were u afraid of some thrashing??
And by the way,we all visit this site to cherish the memoirs of those 4 years in REC,not to think of who bossed around and who didn't.
And hell yeah, there were plenty of things that I wronged there, and maybe it harmed me, but I camofloughed with this environment, and I survived. So, whoever U r, leave all those grudges, it brings nothing...........but frustations |

I dont think shouting now will create any difference..It will only increase this thread day by day. If somebody is really irritated with the kind of food being served in the hostel, then he should complain then and there. After passing out of the college it make no sense that you shout for good food in the hostel, you shout against bossism etc. etc. The condition of this thread is detoriating everyday by these comments. |

Hello Dear seniors,
What is the need to this scribbing? This was a beautiful thread tailored by "Khanzji' ( Sorry if i mis-spelled) for pouring the good old memories of 2nd hostel.Instead of following it through we are still fighting about the food we had at that time.
Pity on you seniors.I stayed in that mighty hostel for 4 years and had some dirty and good food.I am not interested in taking that old things now.It's all over.Now by god's grace i am having very good food.I think this is the case with everybody.
Now what i want to say is instead of taking all these things why can't we know each other's success stories.
There are people like Aveek Sen Gupta who have come up heights without having done much for thier studies.This is pure talent.So is the case with everybody.
May be i am inviting scoldings in pure siletti which goes over my head.Then i am forced to believe REC/NIT Silchar won't grow from its Siletti culture to compete with this evergrowing unipolar world.
