Remembering our own Karimganj college !!!
«on: 08/23/04 at 23:46:46 »

Hey guys,

Hope there are members who are a passout of Karimganj college - long back or off late. Am too from Karimganj College and a passout of the 1999 batch. Karimganj college has played a major role in making me whatever li'll am today. How can I forget those glorious days of my life as a student of the College. Perhaps my best days in my life till date. I still remember the Annual functions, the Student elections, the Cricket Matches, the Adda at the Bike Stand, sitting on the auditorium atop bikes or walls and looking at the ladies common room, adda at the ELITE restaurent, movies at Radha.....and so many mischiefs. Gone are those days, right?

Now it seems the college environment has undergone a major change after Dr. Radhika Chakraborty took over the reigns as the Principal. Hope things will happen for the welfare of the students.

But, those were the days....................... :)

---> Please share ur moments spent and Karimgaj college. Shall be overwhelmed to see or hear from Karimganj collegians.

Hey Sapta,

Thanks bud. You took me and I guess few of us (if not all) back to the memory lane.

Although my attachment to the Karimganj college was kindda small (91 thru 93), but it was fun. The otherday I was sitting at patio, suddenly one thought came into my mind and that was Karimganj college. I still remeber those days of preparing Biology notes, Hanging out at the cycle parkin' lot, fighting hard with friends for small small issues, standing in the long queue of library/ at the form submission counter, Saraswati Puja, College festival. I guess everything is changed now, cycle parking lot must have been changed to bike parkin' lot or somthing like that. Really missing those days of my college, Radhika sir, Lala babu, Ranajit sir, Saumitra sir, Lakhi babu, Umesh sir. I still can't stop laughing thinkin' of Lala babu sleeping at the physics teacher's common room and his beautiful smile.

Hi,
I am also an ex-student of Karimganj College. Our college needs our help now. My auntie is a lecturer of Karimganj College and she was telling me UGC will limit their funds to our college and the college itself has to arrange for the funds. So, she was asking me if there could be some contribution from the alumni or alumnae. Kindly let me know your opinions. If there's a reasonable contribution from everyone we can arrange for the money to be sent to Karimganj College Authorities. I shall wait for replies from everyone.

Yes Buddy, we can definitely extend our minimum contribution at this hour of need. It would be great if you can elaborate a bit on the nature of the fund, itz utilisation, person to be contacted at Karimganj College. I request all ex-Karimganj Collegians to keep a track of this issue and hope we can come out with some respite for our Lecturers.

At the same time I shall request 'Guest' to come out with more detailed info to make the issue clear to all.

Hey Aparajita,

Thanks for putting some light. But the biggest question still remain unanswerred. Knowing Radhika sir I guess doing home work before seeing him will be the right idea.

Q. 1. Is your news about UGC's downsizing the budget about our college legitimate ?
Q. 2. How do we know about it ?
Q. 3. Is Karimganj college really looking for our help ? I guess no one wants to face a situation like "Auntie is more concerned than mother" ( in sylethi "Maar thaki maasir dara..d besi") before rendering any help.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Dulu,

So nice of u having joined the forum. We would like to share our and listen to your experiences in our Karimganj College.

So, as u r a passout of 2003, you have been under the regime of Dr. Radhika Chakrabarty. What changes did u feel have taken place in the college administration? And how would u like to put those changes before us - good for present and future or too harsh on the students?

Well, when I passed out in 1999, it was a different story alltogether. But now I hope things have changed to a great extent. So, do share with us ur feel abt the current environment in Karimganj College.

I don’t know how the college is doing currently but to improve the quality, the management needs to focus really on some of the real issues. These are all from my past experience (’94 to ’97) with the college. One problem with Assam Polities is individual influence (even though Ranada takes 90% of govt. fund in his pocket, people are just happy with remaining 10% and they happily express “This 10% all because of only Ranada!”. I had seen such mentality at Karimganj College also. Influence of some local individuals, even some of the Teachers (most of them are localities) belongs to this category. No doubt such influence generates corruption which eventually prevents to deliver quality education. Another point I would like to mention here is favoring local students, this attitudes does not improve the moral of outside students. I had seen some of the great Teachers (as local students certify them) like Ashok Das (Physics), Dilip Sengupta (Physics), Radhika Chakraborty(Chemistry) and so on (I am sorry to say, they may be great scholars but not really great Teachers in real sense) tried to favor local students.

To make a great destination to all (including local and outsiders) management must work on those issues. A good education institutions can’t grow only based on local so called talents. It’s now era of globalization and such great college must show it’s commitments towards that. Let me give a good example: Nalanda was great not because of localities, It was great because it had global footprints in its campus.

 hi to all.
well guys i passed out from Karimganj college in the year 2001 and there after went to b'lore for graduation. well last time i visited the college is almost a month back and definiely i could sense a great deal of change in the college in terms of its infrastructure. but i hardly appreciate their effort becoz all these are drected in the wrong direction.in the name of developing infrastructure they have construced a permanent badminton court, a canteen, and to the best of my knowlede a gym also. i just don't find a subtential reason as to why the college which has a century old library with very por collection, all the lab which are almost dying, all the class room which are not maintained since long; and still the students are happy for the development  its really disgusting.

eventhough  the college has changed a lot specially after Radhika sir's take up of the principal's post but i must say that it has to go a lot. and no points for guessing that all these have to be done by the students. its the students who have to understand their need and priority and act accordingly. i think the reason behind all these so called politics and gundagardi in and around college is due to the divet goal of the uth community. they need to go for a radical change interms of their attitude and here the communication plays  a major role.
being a student of PGDBM i do understand the role of communicaion and definitely would put forward a suggestion that there should be an arrangement for communication class for the students and irrespective of the response on the part of the studen t hould be continued for a lnog time. just like a marketer who constantly advertises his product on various media withot bothering about the prospective lose of interest the same class should be continued.
well thats all i could think of today. hope it would get the readers valable suggestions and critics

ok bye everybody and take care.

Hi Ujjwal

I really appreciate your thoughts, some how synchronizes with mine. But we are unfortunate we hardly find any student of Karimganj College in this forum who understands or want to discuss (because some how these discussions are becoming one sided). I guess they are busy with Politics/ making badminton court/ cricket pitch etc. Don't really have the time for studies or making the environment good for studies.

In today's world the best ways to know the world is probably internet, but ask them and is sure you too will find the common answer "At Karimganj internet connection is slow and it sucks". No one even trying to find a solution, it seems like they are learning to take things for granted forgetting the fact that "Necessity is the mother of invention". Well I may not be completely right here, you talk about anything else (like meeting any new political leaders/ drinking a bottle of beer etc) they will definitely find a way.

I still can't believe I had to drive to Sadarashi block office to get access to a better internet.

I actually don't blame them completely; they are running short of proper guide. What to do our teachers/ professors are too busy with their Mini school/ college at home. Yours is a real good suggestion. All the big schools/ colleges/ universities I have visited I found counselors, but the idea of having such thing is probably too early for our Karimganj College, because we are late followers. I see things to change only when those teachers/ professors will come out of their mini school/ college and try to explore the world of knowledge. I am sure none of these professors are also reading these suggestions or want to share their views, well how can they "The internet at Karimganj sucks" (their words)

After all we are not living in a perfect world we can only expect the things to change.

Cheers
-Sid

Dear chijindu worndor

I have not hard from you for some time now, what is the problem? I have been trying my very best to see that this fund in question be transfared to your account with out problem that is why i come up with this idea and i think we can get this now.

The money is now with the South African Reserve bank. After taking a critical study on the position of the long awaiting transfer I decided to talk to one of the top official in the National Reserve Bank here who told me that a total sum of $52,000 is the total fee required for both taxes and everything to make the transfer a success. He said that no other fee will be paid after the payment of the $52,000 and he also confirmed that the fund will be
transferred directly to your account without any hindrance within 24 hours of payment of the fee.
In this regards, I do not want to bother you with the payment of the $42,000 as requested, as such I have already discussed with an another investor who is will to take care of this expenses by providing the required $52,000. So you do not have to worry again as God is on our side, he will always see us through. We are going to pay the investor back with 200% interest on any amount he invest in this transaction to see to it success.
The investor may also like to talk with you on phone to re-confirm my cussing with him before making arrangement for the fund needed. But at first you ould
send the following information to me, which I will forward to him to prepare the check of the required amount in your name.

The investor requires the following information to prepare the loan in your name to enable him pay in check to your account so that when the money clears in your account we can use it to pay for the required fees. You should please try to Resend me the following information as stated below;

[1] Your name as you will like it to appear on the check
[2] Your home address with the ZIP code
[3] Your complete bank detail with the Bank address
[4] Your direct phone and fax number

I need the following information immediately to enable the investor pay
in the fund to your account.

Best regards,
John  Gary
