I always think about this Mon, but true that we really do not know the reason, or should I say, the solution of those problems.

Why we are like this, as we are !!! May be the answer lies in the proverb, 'Nodir opar kohe chariya nishwash ...' and then I think that may be we should not compare ourselves with the so called developed nations, and start comparing ourselves with those, who has got their independence some 50 or 60 years back. And when I do this, my 'booker chati' gets wider again ... true, that we are much much advanced and in a better position compared to those countries who had been colonized for such a long time and had become independent recently.

And I find that our problems are much less as well compared to countries who share a near identical past (I'm speaking about the last 300 - 400 yrs). I heard somewhere (source forgotten) that if all the world needs to live the way today's developed nations are living, we need recources of three earths like ours.

Though I really do not know the reason, I do believe that the richness of a country does matter here. If we just see back home, some one doing the job of a police officer is getting 10000 rs. a month, and just to buy a good color television he needs to put together 2 months of salary without spending a single penny from that, and when we see that his French counter part can get the same only with the 1/10th of his one month's salary, we do not need to think twice to understand why our Indian brother is more in quest for extra income compared to his French counterpart.

I remember a proverb ... something like 'Necessity is the mother of invention'. We can not deny that the money a service holder gets in India is not enough, in fact, much less then what they need to fulfill their basic needs (well, time has changed, and we can't tell that only 'food, clothes and shelter' is still our sole basic need) ... much much less what his counterparts are getting in a country like France, England and USA.

And we can't deny the fact, that they are paid less as this is what our government can afford to pay them. And when he sees that his son's father is carrying his son in the silver colored Maruti zen, while he can only afford to welcome his son in the front 'rod' of his rusted black-green bicycle, I really do not wonder when I see this guy asking for a bribe.

I try to understand why corruption is so deep rooted in most of the countries where ppl don't have a 1000$ minimum salary. Why, because luxurious things are marketed thinking about those who are having a high purchasing power, and unfortunately, this purchasing power is too high in some countries compared to most others.

Also we can't deny, that some countries, who were poor in the past in natural resources, so poor that they were obliged to go out looking for what they are lacking back home, and who eventually occupied other richer countries, stole - robbed - looted them for hundreds of years, and then with the help of their accumulated money took the advantage of the industrial revolution, today boast as being civilized and rich nations, can offer a much better economic support to their people compared to a country like can offer to her citizens.

Dawood Ibrahim can offer much better material things to his son, compared to the honest professor of the University of Delhi, for example, and then if both of their son study together, its natural to see a sort complexity in the mind of our professor, and then if he goes for private tution, how can we blame him. Difference is that, everybody will shout Dawood is a criminal, but nobody will dare to question, how much the British stole from us.

Fortunately, we can't hide the smell of a good purfume with cow dung for too long time. I am really proud to see the rapidity at what Indian economy is developing. Besides being colonized for more then 200 years and left with nothing while getting its independence, besides being troubled by richer countries who is throwing poisons to us in the form of terrorism for more than 15 years now.

But I can't deny, that yes, I always think, why there is so much corruptions in our country, and how nice it would have been, had there been no corruption. Sorgo rajyo, ahaa. And then I hear that steel tycoon Mittal has bribed Tony Blair to help him influence the Romanian govt. for his own cause, I sigh, that corruption is not only an Indian problem.

But true, that is making our country too dirty ... from the grass root level ... and it needs to be changed. And I sign again, had it been in my hand !!!

Cheers.

Sourav bhai, when u r comparing the salaries of the Indian Govt. employees with those of countries like France, UK or USA, the comparison shud be based on PPP (Purchasing Power Parity). It's bcoz the difference in the value of currencies as well as the prices indices in the diff. countries. e.g. City Rover, which is basically an Indica, is priced around UK Pound 6,000 or so, and the equivalent model in India is priced at Rs. 3,90,000/-. Now an Indian School Teacher (Graduate Scale) gets a net amount of Rs. 15k-18k p.m. He can easily buy the car with an EMI of Rs. 4,500/- or so. For the Govt. employees, the banks offer a finance facility of up to 90% of the total value. Whereas, a guy like me, if want to avail a loan from a PSU bank, should prepare him/herself for a harrowing experience (I have my own with SBI, when I had approached them to buy a Laptop. Those buggers cudnt understand why I needed some 85k for a Laptop when one is available at 50k. >:(  >:( ). When such sort of preferential treatment is given towards the Govt. employees it's more like "Old habits die hard" kinda situation than the actual need.

Agree amnesiac.  Also, the problem is the lack of in service training and updates and the importance of customer care/service.  India still needs to understand these value system.

As promised, here is one another fascinating article. It might appear to be a bit boring at the beginning, a bit long as well, but this is an important article for we Indians to know ourselves better, particularly of our past.

There r some of the ways to identify different places in India.

Scenario 1
Two guys are fighting and a third guy comes along, then a fourth and the third and fourth guy start
arguing about who's right.
You are in Kolkata

Scenario 2
Two guys are fighting. Both of them take time out and call their friends on mobile. Now 50 guys are fighting.
You are DEFINITELY IN PUNJAB.

Scenario 3
Two guys are fighting and a third guy comes along &
tries to make peace. The first two get together & beat him up.
That's Delhi

Scenario 4
Two guys a! re fighting. A crowd gathers to watch. A guy comes along and
quietly opens a tea-stall
You are in Ahmedabad.

Scenario 5
Two guys are fighting and a third guy comes he writes a software program to stop the fight. But the
fight doesn't stop b'cos of a bug in the program.
That's Bangalore

Scenario 6
Two guys are fighting. A crowd gathers to watch. A guy comes along and
quietly says that "ANNA" doesn't like all this nonsense. Peace comes in.
That's Chennai.

Scenario 7
Two guys are fighting and a third guy comes along, sees them and walks on.
That's Mumbai

Scenario 8
Two guys are fighting. Many guys gather around (including police) supply weapons to fight and applause the fighters.
You are in BIHAR

Amazing right? thought you would also like it, so I am posted it here.
