I always thought these deserve mention somewhere...Let's see how many of you can come up with portions of that unique ad campaign that would probably teach a lot many corporate big-wigs a thing or two about pentration and brand recall...In fact this thread sholud showcase all related incidents, ad-slogans and what have you that all of you can recall...I'm sure many of you will have major examples of a typical journey in that wonderful contraption - the Line Bus.
I'll set the ball rolling with something I heard ( and instantly memorized for ever) on the Silchar Court grounds, which incidentally is a veritable goldmine for Shyleti starved people.
The guy was selling, among multi-coloured aphrodisiacs and Sande-ka-tel, a brand of tablets called "Nitai Pil" for common skin ailments...his slogan went something like:
Obaidi khazzain aar hobaidi khazzain !!
Obaidi khazzain aar hobaidi khazzain !!
Khali khazzain aar khaizzain
Rait jelku huthila, helku khazzaite khazzaite lep-tushok faariya ekkebare tula dhuni laira,

And remember ?.... our dear old "balloon wala" and his unique style of selling cat,bird, etc shaped
balloons?

And his unique style of saying "Are baap re baap " At the end of his campaign ! :)

And I was surprised to see how Nasiruddin Bidi ( or some similar brand ) signed up Antonio Banderas ( Deperado actor) on its ad !!!! Local appeal, international approach ;D

I remember my Aunt saying that the gui used to sell balloons during her childhood also and over the last 35 years or so his looks and style hasn't changed a bit..

Finally got myself a Fred Flintstone icon...always had a crush for Wilma...and then,atleast theoritically,I'll have Sharon Stone as my secretary ;)
Deepanwita's really pulled out a lot of old memories...I wonder how that guy still manages to sell enough to earn a living these days ? Or maybe, Silchar is still not as dominated by Leo, Lego and Funskool as we think it to be.There's still a market for bhuvan-paharer-moina I suppose.
I also remember one guy who used to sell "Ghoogni" ( YAHOO!! ONE MORE SHYLETI WORD !!) mostly in and around the Ambicapatty area in the most extraordinary fashion. I think people from College Road might be able to tell more...he used to say things like..." Jyotsna raate, ondhokaare, dada-ra, didi-ra, aaste aaste egiye aashoon !!" |

the one liners that the conductors on all the buses owe their loyalty to

there are three incidents involving conductoors that deserve a mention here.
first, once I was travelling en route college, a middkle aged person was standing by my side. The conductor approached him for fare and he gave him a torn two rupee note. Just after that, he had to get down but the door was jampacked. So he yelled at the conductor and said, 'kita ba lamibar jaga koriya ditay nani? ami laimtam kila, oto manus tulo tumra bus o'...
quick came the reply, 'dada je ekkhan chira note disoin, ekkhan ada hath boro fukka apnnar note o, ouu fukka diyau lamii jaita parba'( ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D)
another one
this happened with one of my teachers. He and I were travelling in the same bus. Now this fellow always had this attitude of grudging at every other thing. It was raining and so water trickled down from some fissure in the bus, and he said to the conductor, 'kita ba tumar bus igu kita, dui taka dilam bhara teo dekhi gat jol pore'.
the conductor replied 'dada te dui taka disoin dekhau to apne bus o diya jaira, dui taka disoin deika kita ami apnare taj mohol o boiya loia jaimu na kita?'( ;D ;D ;D)
once it so happened that a line bus was heavily crowded, and me and a friend of mine were returning from the college. A man wanted to get down at the linkroad stop but was unable to make his way through the crowd. So he told the conductor, '''kita baa lamaiya ditay naini?' Prompt was the reply, 'oto boro boysko manus oisoin okhono apnare lamaiya dite lageni? nije lamta paroin naa nii?'

..Remember..there's a stop called 'katal', which comes somewhere along the bindaas Meherpur stretch.
I had myself conveniently seated at my fabourite last-right-corner-seat and i picked up this one out of the
almost deafening cacophony-
"Didimoni namoin namoin katal paaki geche!!"..
I had a real look at the alma-matter and was convinced
that the jack-fruit was really a mellowed(:-)) one.

this ia a very sweet topic started by jimut. this reminds me of my university days (i was a student of assam university silchar.) i remeber the fun we had while travelling in line buses (really hot and sweet)
i can never in my life forget the following lines uttered by the bus conductors
"jaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin" in a very typical rythm
"maylok ase lambar dein"
"boin koita baje"
"bharata deeein'and many more, can't remeber now
i will let u all know as and when it clicks to my mind

The memories of the line buses are adorable. I remember when I was goin 2 the university in a 407.je posa gondho bus or bhitre egu to ar khoyar moto nai . I leaned on a window Glass & i was heavy enough to crack it. It costed a lot & so i gave the contactor a 2 rupee fata note & left the 407. thank god.

Yo No one has spent time like mme in the silcher court, I used to quit school and for killing the time i used to go their,I think you still remember their was another guy name was "Basir Bhai" how come you frogot about him man Basir bahier Molom was the best. Cheler hole baba ke Bolte pare na, babar hole chele ke bolte pare na this is bosir bhaiyer dailog man :'( :'( and do u remember MACH Rakhta ni? Mach? Haha ;D |

aar ekta hoilo REC jawar line bus er conductor ra shobsomoy koi RAC, RAC. they never calle it REC.. |
