Jimut, I first noticed "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" in the Trailer of your postings.

Got curious, searched the net with the phrase.. and found that the Phrase is related to Buddhism. I could not get a precise defination of the Phrase in the Net.

After browsing for a long time I think that the Phrase means, dedicate oneself to the law of life. But still not convinced. Can you please help to clarify.

the entire thing is an enchantment in Buddhism...the chanting which would enhance one's mind to understanding the essence, purpose and reality of life

nam is kind of a resolve on someone's part to practise buddhism...thats literally what it is...symbolically it probably would mean to enlighten oneself as Buddha had done...to the truths and the mysteries of the world

myoho- the opennes of mind to accept the truth of life, the ability to appretiate newer things as and when they unfold...I thinks thats what moyho is

renge is a flower symbolizing the mystries or something similar to that and kyo is a tenet...so it is probably understanding the lawas of mystery or using lawas to understand the mystery...
probably jimutda would elaborate on that

Pretty glad that somebody actually brought this up...though I cannot understand why you had to use a Guest login to ask such a nice question.

Rupam actually has given you a very good answer...I don't think I'd bve able to do a better job in so few words.I guess reams and reams have been and can be written about the interpretation of the phrase but I'll still try and give you a sort of layman's explanation which is easy on the mind.

The sentence is in 14th century Japanese believed to have been coined by Nichiren Diashonin, a great scholar and follower of Buddhism ( to say the least ).The script is esssentially classical Chinese as by then Buddhism had spread and gained more importance in those parts of Asia and Japan didn't have a proper script.
The ritual of chanting this phrase is called "Diamoku" and can be done as frequently and as long as desired.

Nam : Similar to our "Namaha" signifying devotion and submission to something/somebody.

Myoho : Composed of "myo" and "ho" and has several interpretations. Basically denotes the theory of "cause and effect" and the dual nature of life and its activities.

Renge : Lotus ( has several implications too )

Kyo : Tenet or "sutra"

The Lotus Sutra is believed to be the last, most complicated and most important of all of Buddha's teachings. The wisdom in the Lotus Sutra is supposedly contradictory to all his previous teachings which were merely preparatory exercises for people to become ready to absorb the ultimate truth - Nam myoho renge kyo - the very essence of all life.

I hate to sound like an advertising board but perhaps you should also take a peek at http://www.sgi.org, the Soka Gakkai International ( Value Creating Society ) website.
