Hope you check the site regularly, Today only I saw the web page. It was outstanding idea but indeed very meagre response. I think we can make it much enhanced by putting the anecdotes which we are part of during our tenure. Indeed it was an tremendous part of our life, the days and nights we have passed there were full of such activities which can never be erased from our reminiscence till last breath. I don’t know regarding the later batches but from 1988 i.e. from dibyendu da’s period(Dibyendu Paul-1988-1991, my memory should not be disloyal to me) to you people’s batch(1991-1994), it was full of colours. All that happiness, annoyance, melancholy will remain etched to the memory frame until the the last breath.
Raja, do you remember you stayed in that mess when you first came in touch with me. I was in college union then and was i/c of Debating and Literary section. We worked for 20/24 hours at that time to make the things flourishing, and indeed I think that time Silpo was the hub of activities (though my seniors and juniors may differ). More over the bonding between juniors and seniors were maximum. Later your roommate was General secretary but as we all know what he was. But We had an excellent think tank comprising bubu, saikat, titu, Pappu, moloy you to name a few. One of our very good friend and my colleague in college union (Ratul Mazumder , Magazine secretary) is no more today. He was a jem of a person.
Raja you remember the inter poly meet, We were lucky to have it during our tenure, though there was injustice from the college authority and immediately after the meet, we had our T-VI final exam. It created a sharp divide in us, myself and Saikat was not in favour of giving exam and we have tried our level best to prevent it, i/c Principal Gherao , I told LMD that until & unless you rang the DT office,you will not be allowed to come out of the office. Though only because of some of our close friends we were compelled to sit in the exam. Though almost all of us came out with flying colours.
All this things are still today crystal clear today in my mind and I cherish these moments. Please forward some instances which you can recollect and together we can make a good memorabilia. Others can also join and it will be a great epitaph of SILPO.

That was a pleasant earshot after a long interlude from silpo mate. How are you ? I was in Mumbai for almost 41/2 years. Where are you in Pune. I used to visit pune where we were constructing Two wheeler plant for Bajaj Auto Ltd. Though it is not in Pune city but I used to stay in pune city.
How is life there? Is there anyone with you from our place. Life in Cyprus is cool. Here 90% people are Greek and the language is also Greek. Most people does not comprehend English. Cyprus is a tourist place, mostly you will find European tourists here. Indians are very rare.
Now, life now and then very boring The way we lead our life in Mumbai, it is to some extent very difficult to fiddle with in other places, especially when the people in the region of you are not of that pervasiveness. I very much fail to spot that Mumbai life
Who are all part of this round table. I believe some of them are not using their names, so it will be difficult to identify. It’s a very good idea of bringing all in a common forum. What about raja? I imagine, he is too much encumbered with the works . I think more and more people should join in such forum so that we can go back to the magical past. Because occurrence shows that old days are always Gold. Any reservation about this ??? :-/ :-* :-*

Once again Uttam here. Yea whatever U had written that's correct man !!!! the old days we had shared under the roof of SILPO that was a great time for all of us. Do U remember Nihar Debnath of Mechanical, Anup of Etn.. I will let U know the ID of Anup. Lekin Anup is very busy man I think so because he never gives reply to the mail. any way I will send the same to U. I am very much in Pune thse days staying in Pimpri area, It's very near to the Bajaj auto plant of Akrudi. Earlier I was staying in Pune Camp area. Bombay is little bit conjusted & the climatic condition is very Bad. Raja thora din tak baat chit kiya tha aajkal silent hoo gaya hein, Baki tor khobor kita R Koo.

what is Anup doing, I met him last in Itanagar when I was in Nerist, he was working with I think Canon if I can remember. Where he is now? It's really pity that we are not able to keep in touch with. I think each one of us is responsible for that. I do agree that in today’s world one and all are busy with his /her work. But I think if you want to remain in contact, there are hundred ways and means to do that. OK, you may not be able to write a detail anecdote, but Hi hello and whereabouts can easily be mentioned. Let us try our best to organise the things here. Unfortunately I don’t have addresses with me, but I will try to manage that and ask them to keep in touch with this forum. By the way do you know who all are associated with this? I will mail gabu(Anup), lets hope he reciprocates.

I will try to collect the id of saikat tonight. Once he is online it will not be difficult to reach to other guys. Can you remember Titu (Amitava Guha Thakurta), Sanjay (Sonjay Chakrabarty), Partho, Tapas , all from raja’s batch. Titu , Sanjay, Tapas was with me in Nerist. Titu is in Guwahati with Wipro, Sanjay with Bluestar, Tapas in Silchar with DFL, partho with ONGC. I was in touch with them , but unfortunately I don’t have any mail ID with me right now. But sitting in Guwahati , Saikat is the key person.
Can you let me know where is Anup at present and working in which platform because I have got a no of friends working in PCS in Pune as well as in Mumbai development centres of PCS.
I was in JEC for 6 months , along with our Ashish da (Ashish Choudhury- Elec. Deptt) and Biswajeet da (Biswajeet Roy Choudhuri - Mech. Deptt), but later I went to NERIST. By the way Saikat has completed AMIE last year. You might be knowing that he is with Electronics Corporation Of India. So working & completing AMIE – possible for him only :) :) :) any news of Ashok ??? ??? ??? |

It seems that only we R free.. saala Anup not a single reply from him. Not even the daserra wishes. I was not in touch with saikat so I cann't blame him but teh response from his side is also very poor.
Yes dear n Pune these days it's becoming cooler day by day. In Marathi Language ( Punatle Gulabi thandi madhe Prakash chi aathwan etoy ) Prakash is a Reputed winter wear shop in Pune City. & the meaning of the sentense is that punar gulabi thandat prakash or katha mone pore. These days here in Pune it's the climate of Diwali. Mostly I will on Immergency duty in the Company during Diwali. Normally I prefer to come to the company during Diwali because all my other colleagues can enjoy the holiday & I can get the advantage during going home. I am going home on the end of Nov mostly.
Baaki sardi thik oise ni be???? Naile Hot kuch le le yaar....

First of all be lated " HAPPY DIWALI ". Boss I am fine here. Not at all loaded with work load, to be very honest it will be wrong if I say that I am over loaded with my work. As long as the network is all right, We R relaxed... Dear I was not in a position to stop me when I had seen the wordings in UR last posting ki " edhar toh Diwali R Kawali ek hai" Good One.. Boss tum toh mere bhi aage gaya. I used to say " Hamare Liye Diwali R Holi Saab Barabar " I mean to say everyday U have to be on duty excepting Thursday.
Ours is Diwali Holiday since 3rd Nov to 7th Nov. But I am on special Duty on these holidays, because some one from our group must be there if there is a single user. Yes in Pune Diwali is a major festival for the Localites. The roads,Markets , Shopping Malls R damn Pack, Every where it is crowded. Today is Bhai Phuta, Kaya boolya hey re bhai ??? I hadn't attended the function after 95. Cholo baria hein, Kuch toh mil raha hein naa life mein kuus huoo. I had enjoyed the Diwali with my friends ( Colleagues ) (Pataka Burning) these days my schedule is like since morning 8:00 to afternoon 4:30 I am on Duty , In the Evening session to some of my friends House, All of my friends lieks me because I am only the non marathi in our group, every one expects me in such types of occassions. I also cal them In Saraswati Puja in My room because I celebrate the same. Aur boohut Chaakli , Karanjee , Shankarpale , Ladoo etc kha raha hun.. I am enjoying yaar & at the same time feeling sorry for U also. So U R going to enjoy the X-Mas ( Kaya saheli hein kein nehin. ) X-mas mein Pune mein toh boohut maaza hoota hein Christian loog ka.. We also get the share of the same. Cholo boohut hoo gaya hein. Aajker khana ek bangali bondhu R ghore.

National Integration Camp
(February, 02-11, 2004)
at NIT, SILCHAR

Introduction:
The Promotion of National Integration provides the framework for greater exchange and understanding among the youth belonging to different regions of the country. It aims to foster national integration and communal harmony.
National Integration remains a crucial issue in India, notwithstanding the fact that we boast of a civilization, which is nearly 5000 years old. True, some of the divisive factors may be inherent in the history, geography and culture of our country, but there are also forces, which accentuate these factors. Religious fundamentalism is one such force while linguistic diversities constitute another. There are people in this country who hold an exclusive view of religion which drives them into a sectarian frenzy that does not admit of tolerance of other faiths. Despite a shared culture of so many years, linguistic diversities have often generated tensions and conflicts amongst different communities threatening the fabric of national unity. The same holds good for regionalism exacerbated no doubt by inequitable development amongst different regions of the country. The age – old caste system has also contributed in no small measure to weaken the bond of unity among different sections of the society. All the above forces and factors do pose a serious challenge to India’s unity and integrity and, therefore, conscious efforts will have to be made by all concerned to preserve the same. The youth of the country in particular will have to be put in the vanguard of such efforts. The National Integration Camp of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is one such small but significant step in this direction.
Camp objectives:
The camp aims to provide the youth from different parts of the country and from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds a common platform to interact with each other, know each other’s customs and life styles, to work together in community welfare projects and in the process make them aware of the underlying unity amidst diversity. By living together in a camp, albeit for a limited period, the youth would develop better understanding of different perceptions, beliefs, faiths and life – styles, which in turn would strengthen a secular and eclectic outlook on their part.
Camp Activities:
The camp activities are planned for the youth in order to instill in them the spirit of national integration through:
i. Seminars, discussions, informal meetings, group discussions, debates, lectures, essay and elocution competitions on the theme of national integration and communal harmony.
ii. Community work, like mass literacy, anti-drug, anti-AIDS, pulse-polio, health awareness and environmental campaigns.
iii. Reading and learning from scriptures of various religions and books which inspire the promotion of national integration.
iv. Cultural programmes.
v. Spiritual discourses.
vi. Yoga and meditation.
vii. Work – camps in which the youth donate manual labour to create durable community assets.
viii. Environmental Awareness Campaign
ix. Visit to places of historical importance and scenic beauty as well as to the sites of important developmental projects.
x. Joint participation of visitors and hosts in social developmental projects.
xi. Participation in regional festivals.
Camp Faculty:
Eminent faculty members/experts/social scientist/parliamentarians from various institutions throughout the country will deliver/conduct the lectures/practical/technical sessions.
Camp Material:
The participants will be provided with comprehensive course material on the issues/subjects related to the Camp theme
Nomination:
The Camp is meant for the youths/students of the academic institutions. One institute can nominate 6 to 10 students (preferably a cultural team) along with the NSS Officer/Staff.
Conditions regarding TA/DA:
The participants will be reimbursed student conseessional second-class train fare, in the shortest route, for attending the Camp on the production of the Original tickets. However accompanied staff is expected to arrange the TA/DA from the parent organization.
How to Apply:
Those desirous of applying for this camp are requested to submit the duly sponsored application in the format enclosed to the course coordinator so as to reach on or before 31.12.03. Selected candidates will be intimated by Post/Fax/e-mail. Selection will be based on the interest of the participants for attending the programme as per Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports norms. The seats would, however, be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Dates:
The ten-day programme will be held during 09-18 February 2004 from 9.30 AM to 5 PM. However the cultural programmes may be held in the evenings. The selected participants are expected to reach NIT, Silchar by the previous evening or morning before the commencement of the programme.

Accommodation:
Free boarding & lodging facilities will be extended to the out-station participants in the institute guesthouse/hostels on sharing basis. The participants are required to bring their bedding with them.
About the Institute:
The National Institute of Technology Silchar is one of the premier national level institutions for technical education in North East India. Government of India as a joint venture with Government of Assam established Regional Engineering College, Silchar in 1967 with the objective of imparting quality-engineering education, providing cosmopolitan outlook among students and development of National Integrity. Recently, the Government of India in a move to upgrade the institute has taken-over the institute and has named it National Institute of Technology with a Deemed University status. It offers 5 UG courses and recently 5 PG courses have also been approved by AICTE. The institute has a very good infrastructure and posses one of the most advanced computing environment present in this part of the country.
The institute is situated in an extending campus about 540 acres of undulating land and lakes surround by tea estates and hillocks providing an ideal environment for studies.
The institute is located on the Silchar - Hailakandi road at a distance of about 8 K.M. away from the railway station/bus stand. Silchar is linked to the rest of the country by road, rail and air. Transport facilities by the way of day super / night super bus, trains are available from Guwahati to Silchar.
NSS Unit:
NSS Unit, NIT Silchar is operational since 1980s. It used to organize various social welfare activities. The regular activities organized under the unit are: literacy drive in collaboration with TLC launched by the NLM, Govt. of India, rural camps, campus cleanliness programme & plantation programme etc. The NSS unit has organized a number of programmes such as:
· Symposium on “AIDS & Healthy Life Style” under UTA Programme from 5th-6th Sept. 1998.
· Programme “Vande Mataram” on 11th Jan. 2000.
· “First Rural National Integration Camp” (sponsored by Dewan Group of Tea-Estates) in collaboration with NSS Cell, Assam University, Silchar held at Dewan Tea Estate, Cachar from 14th – 23rd Jan. 2001.
· Training Programme on "Adolescence & Adolescent Education" (sponsored by North Eastern Hill University, Shillong) on 17th Dec. 2002.
· Training Programme on “Entrepreneurial Awareness Camp for Science & Technology Students” (Sponsored Deptt. of S & T, Govt. of India & Conducted by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati) in collaboration with CET, NIT Silchar from 25th-27th Feb.2003.
· 6th National Youth Parliament Competition For Universities 2002-2003 (Sponsored by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India, New Delhi) in collaboration with CET, NIT Silchar on 21st Apr.2003.
