I got a wild idea which I want to share with others. We have many talented engineers / experts working in quality field. Can any one suggest what are the requirements for getting ISO 9000 : 2000 certification for www.silchar.com. How much will it cost and what are the pros & cons? Can we get some rough idea on how to go about ? Will it increase confidence among visitors, thereby increasing hits? Or will it be only wastage of money & efforts? Any comments or constructive criticism are welcome. If it is a egregious idea, feel free to say so. |

Shankar-da
Ami jokhon kuno website-o jaai, ami taar certificate dekhi na, contents dekhi. Certificate ta kajer hoite fare jodi keu Premasish-re pay korte chai online, aar credit card use korte dorai (due to lack of confidence on Premasish) .. in that case, certificate Premasish-er credibility baraite sahajyo korte fare. Kintu duita jinish koittam ... je Premasis is not selling anything from his site ... so this situation is not arising, and even if he try selling something, I think je Premasish-er reputation enough bhala for that and he may not need an extra certificate to add to his reputation.
Personally I beleieve, what is important is 'content' -> and only content (fresh and updated as frequently as possible) if Prem wants to increase the hit in a significant way. The recent inclusion of SNN is a good idea ... but I will suggest Premasish to redesign the home page, so that people can already start reading the news as soon as they come in the site.
But anyway, alankar lagani to aar kharap hoito nai ... ISO jatio jinish lagani jaitei fare ... show off to hoibo atleast ... |

Dear Sourav,
Thanks for ur reply. I Have seen your site (meetup wala). Very good site and if at all I go to Paris, your site will be of great help ( Europe, language, OMG !!). Also I notice some similarities with KT. One request, can you also give Paris local time { + 2 hours} (DST) along with GMT ? It may help local people / travelers.
Regarding ISO, I am waiting for others to react with more specific information. What you said is generally true. I am aware that a non ISO site like Calcuttaweb gets a average hit of 7372 per hour (Max hits per hour is 16303 ).( Statistics for March 2004 ). That is because ( as you rightly said) the site content is superb, otherwise 2 hits per second is beyond dream. However Calcutta is a world famous city, name itself is good enough, where as Silchar isn’t. Though Silchar is in our heart, the more you go away from Silchar the fame decreases exponentially and the world knows very little of Silchar. Under this undesirable condition, if a ISO stamp can be given, then potential sponsors / visitors may take Silchar more seriously. Any way, it is my wild thinking only, I may be wrong. I have also seen the other side of ISO 9000, how it is misused and how tons of material crosses factory gate, with apocryphal quality check, to achieve target before March end, otherwise no promotion, reduced bonus, worker unrest, look-out and what not ! |

shankar-da In my opinion, ISO is more of a process and such certifications wont help getting visitors to a website (atleast city based websites). Silchar.com is performing very well as far as hits go. You are right .. as silchar is a much smaller city compared to calcutta.. if we match justs hit based from people belonging to respective cities, silchar.com can in no way come close to a popular calcutta based website.
As far as hits go, silchar.com is pretty close to calcuttaweb.com ... try out the third party stats at alexa.com (an amazon.com company) .. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=calcuttaweb.com
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=silchar.com
calcuttaweb.com is 80,000th site and silchar.com is 111,000th website. And if you compare the target population I think this stats are very impressive. Atleast I am satisfied.
And about a year back silchar.com was about the 1,000,000 th site.

Dear Premasish,
I am very happy to know that there is no hit problem for Silchar.com and it’s ranking is improving. Congratulation. Long Live Silchar.com !! BTW, ISO 9000 is not limited to process/ manufacturing alone . It covers a wide area. Silchar.com will fall under “service”, since U R rendering services for Matrimony, News, General Information and offering a e-platform for open discussion. Since the complexity of your “organization” is minimum, getting a certification also will be simple. Your documentation is nothing but your hard disk where everything is already organized, I am not aware of any Standard applicable to this type of work, so, no hassle. Financial auditing, transparency are no issue at all. Most of the other things like Quality policy, commitment, continuous improvement etc. are more on paper and left to you for implementation. However, hiring a professional Consultant will cost money. I am waiting for a knowledgeable, kind hearted, Silchar loving person to see this thread and volunteer to help getting ISO 9000 for Silchar.com at a bare minimum cost. (S)he will find the easiest & cheapest path. Till that time, let us simply wait, since there is no urgency. As Sourav said Alankar lagani kharap hoito nai, Aami koiram Aaro bala hoibo jadi pao sostai. |
