CELEBRATE THE SPIRIT OF 19th MAY

For all of us, those who have roots in Barak Valley, 19th May is the day that makes us great, if we can emulate a part of the sacrifice that our predecessors have made at the altar of our language and our identity. No nation or community can grow without paying for it and without being sensitive to its roots and those whose sacrifice make the roots grow.
In today’s critical times, let us not divide ourselves in the name of religion, the danger that I see lurking in the horizon. As the third world of Bengali culture, language and litrerature, let us decolonize ourselves by not letting the dark days of partition creep in our hearts. Let us not break hearts rather unite it with a strong will to become united in our resistance and reconstructions.
19th May’s historical significance lies in not just achieving our mother tongue but in generating a spirit of living and dying together, especially how moments of crisis strengthens our fellow feeling and provide us the strength to dispel darkness for our hearts
Let’s all work together to make Barak an ideal place to live and shun the path of mutual annihilation and stand up collectively together to rise above narrow walls of hate and revenge.
Let’s all remember all the eleven martyrs of 1961, martyr of 1972 and martyrs of 1986 who have set high standards of life before all of us and made themselves immortal by their supreme sacrifice. Let’s remember them and pay worthy homage to their blood and prove ourselves to be true believers of freedom and progress. |

How many of us would have remembered those martyers today were it not for this posting from Mr. Biswas? I for one, would not have.
And am not sure a lot many of my friends would have either. This shows us how far we have moved off from our mores.
I appreciate this posting by Mr. Biswas. Let me see if I can atleast REMEMBER May 19 for its true worth from next year, if I cannot do anything better about it. |

the cruel part is that i know that today is 19th May......but i completely forgot about its imporatnce in our life.....just shame on me...... When few years back.......Sanonda magazine wrote an article about those martyers and mentioned that the incident happened in Tripura we raised our voice loudest against it and blasted Sanonda office by letters.and in the next issue they appologised up front..... now i feel i m not better than them....... Let the whole world know about our heroes..our true heroes......we should do something about it. |

Yes let's salute them all !
Here's the names of the eleven brave souls who sacrificed their lives on this day in 1961, for the language we freely learn and speak today in the Barak Valley.
1. Kamala Bhattacharjee. 2. Hitesh Biswas. 3. Tarani Debnath. 4. Sachindra Chandra Paul. 5. Sunil Sarkar. 6. Sukomal Purkayastha. 7. Chandi Charan Sutradhar. 8. Satyendra Kumar Deb. 9. Kanailal Neogi. 10. Kumud Ranjan Das. 11. Birendra Sutradhar.
As a side note, I think there was a commission of enquiry named "Malhotra Commission", constituted by the Government of Assam after the incident, whose report has not been published even to this day.Does anybody have any detailed information on it ? |
