generally I dont participate in developmental issues...because they are non issues for me, but since u've mentioned our university has caused u some downfall in ur mind for whtevr reasons, i get attached to it , is as simple as that.
Now quickly into why developmental issues are non issues for me and why I dont participate
I call it 'Atmoghati Bangali' ness (great laureate Nirod C Choudhuri coined it), we are more into destruction than maintaining what we have. We have ruined district library soft sofa covers after its brief renovation, we have thrown stones and break glasses there, we have made our cinema halls dirty than the hell where the spittoon is absolutely clean and the rest is a exported collage from rantu, pintu, mintu,jhantu pan vander. You dare to sit in the chair, because there nmay be a chewing gum or some raw and fresh spit waiting for u.
Here everybody is equal, people open there 2nd hand maruti800's rear door and will colour a spot of shillong patty for free, not only in land, we also spit our mithapati jarda pan in in the Calcutta bound flight. We do it with style, we take a corner of a carpet and put the subject there when the air hostess is not around.
We dig the public road with OUR resources for occasions and get a nirvana after it. You get the feeling when you are on travel.
There are '000s of instances.
Do we love our Silchar?
Would you hurt someone if u love? Would you play with it's name?
Development for whom, and why?

Very true ! we cannot develop unless we pledge to save what we have. My gratitude to you for dropping in your comments. I'm certain many a sleeping light, to be better, has awaken amidst us. If I get you right , the first step for us is not contribution, but tuning our attitude towards the positive.Right ? If water needs to be retained in a bucket, the holes at the bottom ought to be sealed first.

So far spitting goes Hyderabad is horrible. You have to be careful even while walking on the road least somebody may spit on your body. One architect has found a novel solution for anti-spit building. (S)he has put picture tiles at all vulnerable points in the building like corners, staircase landing etc. The tiles depict pictures of all religions like Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and whatever GOD knows tiles available. The article ended telling that the building is still devoid of spit. I haven’t seen the building, only read in newspaper. If anybody knows the building please tell us. I am only sharing the news with all of you.

Please don't misunderstand me. But I feel that it is not justified to compare Chanyka, Priya, Satyam and Anupam ( used to be my favourite theaters too ), which are frequented by upper middle class of Delhi, with Devdoot.
Try watching a movie in cinema halls near Paharganj ( near NDLS railway station ) or Karolbagh. You will definitely remember Devdoot. Also remember the cost of visiting Devdoot vis a vis visiting Anupam/Priya etc. You will realise why Devdoot is not so well maintained. So the point here is that even if our cineman halls or roads are dirty that does not mean we will have to stop thinking about any new developments. We Indians in generally lack sense of hygiene. This problem is compounded by illiteracy. All the things that you described is prevalent across the nation. People do dig road for their personal purpose in Delhi. Have you seen how 'jagran' is observed in Delhi? People make pandals on the main road.
If you want to do something good about Silchar then the first step is to take pride in what you are. What you should consider is that Barak Valley is only place in North East India where people are not hellbent on killing each other. We live in a very picturesque land covered by blue hills ( may be my nostalgia is talking here). Calling silcharites supid ain't gonna help.
When I was in REC, I often ran into similar arguments with my friends from metro cities. Who always complained about such petty things. That the roads in Silchar are not good, cinema halls are dirty, outlook of people are narrow. I always told them that how can you compare the capital city of India or the financial capital of India with a town located in north east? Shanu, I shall tell you the same thing. |

Guys N Gals,
You talking about forcoming issues and the trying to dig into some of the exsisting ones... why don't you take up something which is runing thousands of students life...The sick Assam University. I have raised this issue in a thread but unfortunately not many replies. Is it a general trend?..people avoid touching the real issues. My sisters pass papers were wrongly graded in a terrible way. She is a very studious girl and got 58% in hons while was given 10 marks each in two of her pass papers. To make the situtaion even worse for her, they haven't rechecked her papers after alomost three months she submitted those papers for rechecking.
Can you imagine how frustrated she can be? What about her career dreams and all? I am sure lots of other students also have faced a similar fate. All of these just make me feel so terribly frustrated and angry for not being able to do something about it. Out of frustration my father sold his house and relocated to Calcutta. If this kind of a situation is prevailing in the only University, who would be willing to let their children grow up in such screwd up place.
I wish I could be there just to see how those bastards ignore their responsibilties. I still believe that poeple would not be able to lie on my face. I believe my sister and parents do not have the guts and determination to take the matter seriously with the university. If I were there I certainly would have done everything possible ..go to courts..do publicity events. My appeal to all in this thread please do come forward with your support against this kind of an act of irresponsibility and crime done to the most vulnereble group of people.

I am really horrified to hear this news. Problem is the lack of accountability and transparency in the procedure. These people in the University are so insensitive that they don't even care about the students.

Mastor and Confused, I appreciate you guy's sympathy. The way I think is that there should be some voices raised against these things and stir them up. Do you guys have any ideas how I can do this remotely? I am not able to be present at Sichar in person.
I also think that the students should take these up seriously with the university. There are universities and institute in India, where you can approach the professor with your graded papers ask his for more marks if you can justify it. Then what is the damn problem in asking Assam University to rectify their horrible mistakes. Do we have somebody who has some knowledge about any such attempts to go against the university.
One more thing I find is the professors are even not supportive of this kind of a move. Its really strange. Where the heck all the upright morales in Indian teachers have gone? R we not mirerably degrading? I am interested to know voices from some of the teachers . |

I think this motto fits right for Silchar, everyone know the whole nation along with Silchar is going to dark and we are the people who has to light the candle. So lets make Silchar and our nation a better one by whatever way we can contribute. The way I want to contribute to the nation is come back to India, settle down in Silchar and do whatever I can do for the upliftment of the living standard of the people of Silchar.

Have you considered any legal recourse? It may be a lengthy process but these days some cases are being resolved fast. May be you can find out other students in similar situation and talk to a good ( I emphasise, GOOD. Avoid Hammer branded lawer. ) lawyer. Since your sister is currently not a student of AU she won't have to worry about the repercussion.
