Hi, I am Parag an MBA from AUS(1999-01) presently residing in Delhi. I think it will be great if all MBA's from AUS join me in sharing their experiences time to time and make it more eventful and memorable.
                       with love,

It was a great adda point for the great budding managers of '99-2001 batch . Ist semester was --------greatly affected by interpersonal skills and seriousness of the students( Ke Kare dekhaite pare), (humse badkar kaun??)  Our former Dean , Prof. S.S. Khanka preached the mantras of marketing in his own style , catering to the interest of  all addabaaj, he used to relate to common instances of life ----umbrellas manufactured in siliguri---etc. to explain marketing ;D cigarette-----referred to as sweta dandika, wine as kuch kuch hota hai!.
Again came the class of Dr. A.K.Das Mahapatra, the present HOD and Reader who used his tricks and unpleasant ways of spreading terror in the minds of the buddies to rule over their hearts and minds. We used to take him very seriously unless and until -----
Again Dr. R.K. Raul, with his unique way of expressing his feelings and talking to the students (ooof !!, yeh kaishe ho gaya bhai !!, etc. cast a magical spell on the students and everyone used to enjoy his class( not the contents, i mean Accounting for Managers, which was all bodyline bowling for us).
Then came Mr. Y.V. Rao(  sitdowngoodmorning, the response came to the good morning sir thrown by the students. He was so serious that his class used to run over time and we used to sleep and yawn in the class.
Again the most important (less) person will be insignificant if not personified--------, ::) he is none other than Mr. Arup Barman(apme) who used to teach Managerial Economics. But his ways of teaching, getting stuck at times (apme apme) made it even more boring .
Please don't take them so seriously b'cos there was nothing critical , but only the lighter side explained.
Next suggestions and comments sought from the MBA's .
              ---------to be continued.

Those memorable days

Hi frens

Thanks Parag for taking the initiative in getting us re-united thru this adda. What if there's no more Motilal adda!!! we can do it thru this maha adda. But where are other guys of our gang? Do they know abt this adda? If not, lets try to disseminate this info to all.
I am in bangalore right now and miss those hungamas we used to have every day. Those get-togethers every now and then. Truelly speaking, we just needed a simple cause to arrange for a party among ourselves. But gone are those days.
What abt our juniors? Must be busy thinking how to get 1 mark more than the other. But, let me tell you, this doesn't work at all. All of us who are out of Silchar, by now, must have experienced, what a struggle for job is...(even after getting into a job).

BTW, I am going to home sweet home :D next week. Will collect news from silchar and update u abt our gr8 department.

Get going the Adda in full form.
Good Luck !!!

Hi Parag
thanks for reminding those wonderful days. I don't know about others but for me those two years were the best in my life. To be frank those two years changed my entire life and gave me a new inspiration to start afresh.
How could you forget the journey by university bus from Rangirkhari to univ. Wasn't it great?  Sitting with jayasmita, tubu and our manishadi and enjoying antakshri with mistu. it was great. Also always we used to feel tensed as the bus approached Cachar College as  Miss colourful(remember---red,green.blue) would catch the bus there and one of us had to vacate our seat if the bus was full. (sorry kutty). Also do you remember all those childish comments of tubu----"sob bachharare marilaibo". For me that bus journey was even more enjoyable than the university classes.
I will come up with more next time. I would like to thank manisha and rajyashree for contributing. This adda must definitely go on.
                                      bye everybody.

Hi everybody,
well rajyashree though i was tensed i loved giving my seat to u and will also do so in the future. It would have been great if we all could go back to silchar and again study in the univ for two years so that we can relish those moments once again. What do you think?
Yeah i got a job but feeling very sad :( as i would have to go for 15 days to a very remote place called Umbergaon, situated in the Maharashtra-Gujrat border for trainning. There is no cyber cafe there and i can't access the net to come to this page and feel nostalgic about our passed days. But thats life and maybe for this only we studied.
Will get back to all soon.

Hello everybody
right now i am in gujrat for my trainning upto 25th of this month. But luckilly there is internet facility available here. So i am feeling better. Actually i am in an exile within an exile. Already i am miles away from my parents and my beloved. And on top of that now i have to stay here for 15 days in this remote place. Feeling really down as can't speak bengali here, can't have rice etc.  But have to adjust as this is life. To gain something we have to loose something. Isn't it?
But to be frank i believe everyone should go through this stage in one's life as it teaches many thing and is also necessary for one's personality dev.   For example see I can cook nowadays, I can speak different languages etc.
While coming here from delhi my train touched Godhra and Vadadora stations. It was very emotional getting down at those stations and talking to the few locals who r still there( everything there is destroyed and deserted). The emotions of all the passengers were boiling but we had to control ourself as being indian we r supposed to be"SECULAR" >:(.  Don't know when we indians will change.
By the way how r u all? Manisha u must be feeling great meeting your family members after a long time. Rajyashree pls. stick to your job and don't return however bad u might be feeling. Everything will be ok. Have patience.
Well anirban thanks for remindind me those wonderful days but yaar nowadays i don't open  :'(any new deptt. or universities.
             bye everybody and keep posting.

hello friends!
back again after a long gap but frankly speaking i was really surprised at the overwhelming response of yours at the beginning and suddennly i find everything as cool as a cucumber as Mr. siddhu sometimes refers to, any way..........
came second semester and the real fight was over by now as the new battle field was beginning in the marks jargon! ;) started the game of politics and conspiracy-------
started the involvement of our so called (gods) in the matters and private life of students.
:D the mood had changed from seriousness to bunking of classes and making visits to gandhimela and cinema and the first social week also made the mood more luxurious.again came the period when AIM-QUEST was on the cards and politics and controversy came to the throat. any way one was to sacrifice and fortunately this time the sword came straight on the junior batch and they decided to hold a separate function themselves in order to celebrate the millennium's first leap year. so came rounds of meetings and controversies and it continued till the end of the programme which was a big success(for us) as the whole university was made to a standstill by the deptt. of business admn.
:P next the study part was ok other than some small love-stories which sprang from nowhere and continued to rule over the hearts of every one concerned---------
some day or the other they had to end and a tragic end came as the hero was totally outbursted by the heroine in ruthless manner(joking) thanks to the class who also got some entertainment.then came the big fight ------
it was regarding summer placement and it was really a hazardous situation and specially the deppt. could not do anything rather than prepare some letters and pads and the students really began to take control of the centre as it was their wish which could take them to the industry!
thank god atlast everything was ok and everyone got placed somewhere or the other :'( :'
             ------------- will continue
with love and warmth of delhi,
                              @};-parag.

How r u all????????????
«on: 05/21/02 at 03:09:55 »

Hi Guys !!!!!

How r u all doing? It's pretty interesting to see a mail from TUBU. So at last she found time to say hi ! to all. Thanks Tubu for ur message. So how r guys in Delhi doing. Think getting boiled in the heat, right? Be careful with ur food and look after ur health.

Oh I had been to our deptt. this time. all r doing fine. A.K.D.M is transferred to Sambhalpur University, Orissa. So only three of them in Deptt. All the faculty has asked all of us to help juniors to get summer placement in some companies. So if u have any contacts, please do help them out.........

It had been raining cats and dogs all thru, so cud not move around much. The sad part is ....the day I left for bangalore, Tubu reached Silchar. So cudn't meet her. Anyway got the news that she will call me up. But not yet. Probably she cannot get the connection to me ??? Yeah somehow I got the informatio taht she is doing well with her job. So that's really good Tubu !!!!!!

Yesterday just a small panga with my HR, manager. So was a bit upset. Today she asked sorry and sab thik ho gaya. Kya he na.....kabhi kabhi dimag zyada garam ho jata hain. But all is fine now.

BTW, Raj heard that u r leaving bangalore in june? I tried to contact u, but ur hostel phone is always engaged.

Ok guys, take care. Bye for now.

Hi! everybody,
posting after a long time. Hope all of you are well. Yes manisha you r right about tubu but i hope she continues her postings and the earlier one doesn't become---"once in a blue moon" :P
So manisha its good to hear that u r feeling better now after that panga. Deemag ko cool rakhna seekho 8)  For all of us its our first foray into the employment scene. I know it will be difficult for all of us to adjust initially. We are not used to all these. But with time everything will be ok. Besides remember that in corporate world there is no place for emotions or sentiments. We will have to take everything in our stride.
Good to hear about the recent developments in our department. So from now on our juniors life will not be made---"HELL" as the devil has left. :D   Yes i think if possible we certainly should help our juniors in getting  summer placements.
Well raj its good that u will be in silchar after a long gap but that shouldn't stop u from sending your postings here. OK?
Well it's really hot out here in delhi, unbearable. Hope the monsoon comes soon.
bye for today and take care

:D.....Comm..on Raz...rather than giving the right answer ..i guess the lines "by the by i did my MBA (finance and marketing) from IIM,AMEDABAD" was only the bottomline ....

Whether its Harvard ..or IIM..or Assam University ....what i experienced is ..A journey of a thousand miles, begins with but a single step...

So should we make it a point unnecessarily to emphasis where we  groomed ourselves !!

Will like to see your answer dear !

Dear son Raj,
is this what i taught u in your younger days.Shame on you. I think you got a good reply from Harvard guy. Learn from him what is modesty. Inspite of studying in harvard he has down to earth nature---and it should be. Also son u have brought down the reputation of IIM. In india students of IIM's are considered as the best and the leaders. They are supposed to have leadership qualities and are beleived to take initiative in any given situation. So though the question was posed for someone else, u should have answered it without giving any rubbish excuses. By the way do u really know the answer????? Hope so!!!!
And Mr. Peter,  don't u think it will be good if u give your identity and the purpose of your query. I hope u are also from IIM or may be any B-school abroad. Still u don't know the answer like my spoiled son raj. :'(
ok i hope i will be able to pass on the good lessons to my other childrens... :(  ok bye till then.

Hi all!
yes rajyashree, u r very much right. We should take care that this section doesn't become a junk like others. The very purpose of this section was to unite all AU's who are scattered around india, so that we can share our experiences and keep alive our friendship. Others can of course contribute but with a constructive motive.
By the way a new friend has joined us in Delhi---------Saptarishi, and he has brought along with him rain :D Feeling much releived now here as the weather has become a bit pleasant. Another great news--Dibakar is also coming here on 22nd of this month. So we will have a great adda.
By the way how r u all? Keep in touch
bye
santanu.

Posting after a long time. Am sorry, I was busy these days. When I logged in today, I was surprised to see all the  messages. Please, it's a request ............. don't spoil this adda. It was an initiative to reunite all of us whereever we are, not for pulling each other's leg.

Anyway, Shan good that u people are gathering a big group out there. Anirban, heard from u after a long time. Yeah our deptt is all the same. But u r right, no other can have fun the way we had. Anyway, Silchar is good and it was nice visiting after a long time. Will mail u soon. Tell me how's ur job going on.

Hey !!! why don't u guys come to bangalore for a trip. It would be great if all of us meet again.

Bye, take care.

Dear All MBA,s of AU ...i enjoy a lot reading your experiences  ambitions ..plans , voyage and struggles....the stories which though remotely should matter me now but reading them ..somehow relates me to the place where perhaps my roots lies. But my sincere apology to all if i have anyway turnished the decoram of this platform while replying to Mr Razdeep Endow.....

I replied because i could smell a vanity and snobbish ego of "IIM" brand speaking more than what he wants to say. What was the justification of that declaration(i am from IIM! )People out there at Silchar must have struggled hard to make a career and since everybody is not born with a silver spoon or bag full of right opportunities (that Razdeep might have been fortunate enough to get !)....i guess they did the best in their perspective and now they are proving themselves everywhere and if i read between the lines in all the postings here...they are really promising ! I am optimistic that some day these people will too work miracles .....and i am happy and hope they do not suffer from the alter ego that razdeep harbours about "Leading a division at 30 !".....Its good to be proud of individual achievements but its not a worth appreciation that you flash your tag to emphasise something than what you really have to say......
I apolozize once more to one and all who feel i have done wrong by participating in such a discussion! And razdeep i will be happy to reveal my identity ..but i doubt what good it will do other than spiralling to another controversy!I am presently doing my course on manufacturing and industrial management at harvard and i am 26 ..and i see buzzing crowd of talents who are humble about their abilities and achievement and sensitive to achievements  of others.Hope you will come out of the "IIM hallucination"..and know that the world and words you know is not enough !

The Harvard Guy

Hello everybody,
thanks harvard guy for your encouraging words. I could feel that u couldn't resist yourself after going through the posting of raazdeep. It's OK. Hope in future u will share your experiences with us which definitely will help us and our juniors.
Miss Mahua i can't fully agree with your explanation on brand value and brand loyalty. How can they be the same terms. Let me explain what i feel, though i may be wrong--------
Firstly a brand is a type of product manufactured by a particular company and value is "worth" of something. A Brand also says something about the producer's values. Thus, Mercedes stands for high performance, safety, prestige, and so on. This is what i feel is brand value.
Whereas brand loyalty  is the tendency of customers to continue buying the same brand. For example Mr. X intending to buy Colgate tooth paste in a store, findind it to be out of stock, will walk out of the store to buy it elsewhere rather than switch to an alternative product.
Manisha, we here in delhi, will certainly try to make a trip to bangalore to meet u. It's my promise to u.
Bye for now...
Santanu.

Hi everybody,
after a long time somebody has brought the whole matter to an end.I hope Mr. Peter will be happy with the aswer given by Santanu-and if not, then I request Mr. Peter to go through some books to find a better explanation.
For the last few days I am watching that all the guys(eg,Rajdeep,The harvard Guy and others)are trying to make their image by telling a lot about themselves, but nobody dared to give the right answer-its really sad as well as bad.No doubt the question was directed to parag, but does it mean it must be answered by Parag only.If someboy thinks he/she can answer better,he/she should have tried to quench the thirst of Mr. Peter-but no! it didn't happen. Its my request to all of you-if you have any question ask,but don't direct it specifically to somebody;ask in a general way so that each and everybody can share his/her views.
Another thing I like to stretch upon-this particular section was created by Parag to reunite  the guys from Assam University, MBA deptt-so pease don't spoil the very bottomline of this section.I am not resisting others to join this section-but with a good reason-not to show his/her superiority complex, his hi-fi background.
Well Mr. Peter, can you just tell me something about yourself-who?where from?what are u doing?etc. It is because after giving rise so much controversy, you didn't write anything and we are just passing comments to each other. In other words, you are the cause of everything-don't mind but this is the truth.
Well, now I think, all are happy and I  thank the Harvard guy for his encouraging words.
Bye For Now.

dear santanu,u r wrong , .brand value doesn't have any relation with performance.performance and value does n't  goes together. it is clearly value of that brand. .. if u see performance than rolls royace is much better quality than mercedez . but due to good promotions on brand building for last 100 years mercedes is always considered as premium brand...but brand value is much lesser than rolls royace...

and my dear anirban de ,pl. don't give us a impression that this platform is precisely for au's. o.k. iam from silchar and it gives me lot of enthu' sharing my views in this platform. so, give ur constuctive views instead of giving "funda" ,don't mind ....... this is a honest advice

Hi everybody,
Hope all of you are in the good mood.
So miss Mahua,in your opinion I am giving "funda".Yes,I am giving "funda".Do you know why-b'coz,nobody is happy for whatever is going on in this section for the last few days and I feel its time to stop all these things.
Another thing I like to tell you-you have misinterpreted my words.I said "this particular section was created by Parag to reunite the guys from Assam University, MBA deptt-so pease don't spoil the very bottomline of this section.I am not resisting others to join this section-but with a good reason-not to show his/her superiority complex, his hi-fi background."
Now tell me-what does it mean?Does it mean you are not welcome to this section?
As you said you are senior to me-so I firmly believe you can understand the meaning of this very sentence.-Bye-have a good day.

Hi everybody
well mahua thanks for your view point. But i think u have slightly mis interpreted my explanation. I never said value and performance goes together. I only said performance(one amongst many other attributes) of a product only adds up to the value of the product. Value here doesn't mean anything in the monetary sence. But in anyway also brand value and brand loyalty can't be the same thing. Isn't it?
Anyway thanks for participating in a constructive manner. I look forward for more views from your side because i feel by discussing through such a forum only we will develope our knowledge.
               bye

in an eveready battery, there is a picture of a cat and the no. 9. why does this signify ?
brand value means " value of that brand" clearly monetary terms.
brand loyality means  of course repeat use

Hi everybody,
Hope all of you are fine.So after a long time a lot of answers to the question  raised by Mr. Peter are coming out.But I feel nobody is fully satisfied with the answers and hence a lot of arguments are taking place. So I want  to share  my opinion in this regard.
Firstly,
WHAT IS  BRAND?
Brand is a name/term/sign/symbol/design or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods or services of one seller or a group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competitors. It can be a name or trademark or logo or other symbol.
WHAT IS VALUE?
Value is the  bundle of benefits customers expect from a given product or service. So,value addition to the products/services is the prime objective of any producer in the present marketing context.
WHAT IS LOYALTY?
Inclination of the consumers to a particular product/service.It shows to what extent a customer is loyal to a partiular product/brand/service.
WHAT IS BRAND VALUE?
In simple terms this is the value of a particular brand. This value is built up over the years.I am citing the same example given by Santanu.Whenever the term”Mercedes” is pronounced, a different type of impression is developed in the minds of the people. This value(or impression)was built up by promotion, advertisements etc.It might be true that Rolls Royce is bet
