Hi boys
Today morning I came to know about another suicide in REC, Prabal Kumar Das 5th sem comp engg, What's going on ? I came to know of his suicide today morning itself from my wife,who is incidentally his distant cousin. I don't understand why atleast one death has to be there in four years by suicide....I don't believe that there is much pressure in studies either..........I feel that REC (now NIT) admin should takes steps to identify susceptible cases and consult them on their problems & concerns..........
As far as my belief goes all who comes to REC are good students so it is not study pressure but wayward nature which engulfs them.....and if proper consultation is there it might help in preventing such mishaps........
I am deeply moved by his death and pray that his soul may rest in peace....
But I also want to bring it to notice of NIT faculty that only being one of the top colleges(which is not the case) will not solve the purpose.......only then the purpose will be solved when all who gets into it goes out in flying colors and settle themselves pronouncly...so that the name of our NIT spreads with them ...........and steps needs to be taken urgently to manage & mitigate such situations recurring year after year.

hi guys ,

its a real sad news...in our time also one similar...hope somebody remember....that also because of a hero ( english professor..that stupid may be there still.in NIT.@#@$@ )...fellow college mate was caught while copying in exam..he requested/pleaded not to report...bu he did..since he was on foreign qouta...he felt he will loose his career...even college union also requested...that great hero could have made him fail in exam...but he reported...our fellow mate..did suicide by jumping from a running train...between silchar and guahaty...next day students ransacked the collge...guests house...principals house..proff quarters..etc...principal..local guardian of students of REC tried to fly ( escape from his responsibilities)..students..attacked him also...3-4 students were suspended....we all had to vaccate the hostels with all belongings within 24 hours.....a 2 months shutdown of REC...it was really painfull day./ DAYS....all because of that stupid professor....

I think the problem is not with the teacher..see whenever you are into an engineering college it si expected that you are enough matured...so now onwards you are at your own....besides that everybody knows how big our college hostels are..so it is almost impossible for the teacher to go to each hostel and perform a sequencial check...the fact is that you are not in the nursery school and you should not listen to unnecessary fundas....it is upto you how you lead your life in the college....i think the culture itself should be changed in REC then only these problems can be solved...

What do you understand by the responsibility of professors. Do you think that only by coming from 9-5 their duty is over. They have also the moral resposibility to check for the welfare of each student. Our nit has around say maxm 800 students(exaggareted) and how many professors & lecturers do we have around say 50 so can't each one can take responsibility of 40 students. When our students perform well they say it is their work, and when the same students do bad they shrug off from their responsibility why?

Well I must say that if a teacher is the warden of a hostel then he is responsible for any thing that happens in the hostel. It cant be said the teachers cant check the hostels individually. Well Mr. Sankha Paul, its thw duty of the warden to do so. If he cant he may leave the post. But no , they wont leave so, cause from a sole post of warden each warden is making some good amount of money every year, which is known as the so called development fund. Do u know that for our 4th hostel every year more than 1 lakh rupees were alotted only for painting and how often did u see our hostel being painted. Moreover our hostel got unfit for staying at the east end due to no repairing and maintenance virtually and Mr. Sankha Paul being an REC our college had ample amount of fund atleast for the repairing of the college.
So the call of the day is that all teachers of this REC/NIT are nothing but motherfuckers and they need some good kick in their ass, otherwise I dont think that they will be ever serious to the students, whom they consider to be their slaves and can treat them as they like.
I guess Col. J S VIRK, against whom we had said so many words was the best man for this notorious teachers. We did strike to get the favour of this teacher and what did the teachers do, they even after the strike gave better marks in class as well as exams to the students of the non striking wing. Mr. Sankha Paul, I would like to mention one thing in COA-I midsem I got 16 and another Bihari got 6 in midsem. Do u know how much our beloved arup bhatt give to that bihari as sessional-----19/20 and i got 16/20

AND how can you say in favour of the teachers. Have u forgotten what BEKU did to you.

NIT SILCHAR TEACHERS ARE ALL UNIQUE SPECIMEN OF INFERIORITY COMPLEX AND THEIR HUNT ARE THE INNOCENT STUDENTS WHO COME WITH SOME BRILLIANT RESULT IN THIS COLLEGE BUT LEAVE OUT WITH ONLY FRUSTRATION AND HATRED TOWARDS THE BLOODY TEACHERS.

You guys are really missing the point.

We have a huge problem of putting our mistakes on somebody else's back. Which teacher did what to whome has nothing to do with this discussion topic. What happend in REC is really shocking and should not repeat. And for that, insted of looking at what others did to Probal we should find out what wrong Probal did. I am sure he is at least 10% responsible for his death. We should find out that 10% and let others know, so that before repeating the same mistake they will at least think about Probal.

And one more thing....we should not say such comments using the word "Teachers" of REC, because as far as I know, there is atleast one teacher who is not like others.

I beg to differ on ur stance on the suicide of this friend of mine. The teachers of REC really sucks. And I still blame the teachers for the death of this student. Atleast this guy was not a fool or an idiot. Rather he was a genious. And his deaths main reason is the college authority. As u said that he was 10% responsible for his death. Well everyone is responsible for his misdeeds. Do u remember u once grew severely ill in ur 8th sem and if I aint wrong then u were responsible for that 100%. So its not the case .

You are saying it's an open forum, again you are asking me to correct my writing. Anyway...go ahead.

Hey Localite and all...you are not getting my point. If you know me, you must be knowing I had a terrible experience with REC teachers too. I am not saying that the teachers at REC ROCKS, Most of them (rather almost all of them) SUCKS. But I also had teachers like K. L. Baishnab.

But the point is not that. what I ment is, insted of talking about the teachers here (who are definetely responsible), why not we find out what were the mistakes Probal did, so that we learn from them.

I did many wrong things in my life and I believe I am 100% responsible for those (I don't care what my teachers or somebody else did to me). They were all my own decisions. But every time I learned from them, corrected myself and tried my best not to repeat them.

Anyway....I still don't know what exactly happened to Probal. One more thing...when did Probal joined REC...did I see him. Please through some light.

pl.dont forget that...rec's ( nit ) are not like other institutions...( defenitely not a local college)...its an 100% residential institution ..very rare institutions like this kind...so residential means its like a away home...principal and wardens and other teachers have a moral responsibilty ....prinicpal is the local guardian of a student...as well as the warden..they have to have the responsibility....they have to know the feelings of students...some are staying away from home 1000..of kms..with different cultures...they need to establish more interactions..frequently...sometimes they have act..as guardian...elder brother...friend....etc...so the basic concept has to change...their feeling towards students...as i said earlier its not a local college...some may require affection...a soft approach...that will be sometimes a great relief for some sensitive guys...

Since u have ragged him so u have the responsibility atleast to know abt him. He was from Karimganj and a student of CSE. Stood 29 th in JAT and missed IIT by 3 marks. Anything else ???
So far as scrutinising Probals nature or flaws, thats an open book and requires no further explanation. but we must know what all these teachers, the bok@#$%s are doing there in the college and earning a lot of money both black as well as white and giving away nothing in return to the students.

It's really good talking to a junior from REC. Comeon, I never ragged any of my juniors when I was in 7th sem. Anyway, trust me, I really don't remember Probal. But I am equally sympathetic as you about Probal. Even though I don't remember him, I must have talked to him.

So what about his family. I guess he was also from Silchar. It's really bad, even though we are talking a lot about him, we still can't help him in any ways.

What's the scenario in REC about this issue. Regarding teachers of REC, I know them very well. We can talk about that personally. You can reach me at kankan@gmail.com.

i remember 2 suicide cases... before 1990..one - our senior batch ..girl ..did suicide by shooting herself with pistol ( i think her father was in army )...another during our time..a student from nepal ( bihari student )..did suicide by jumping from a running train...the first one due to some personnel affair (i think classmate ) problem ...other one related to college..( copying in exam..)..already somebody mentioned in this forum..ealrier..

Listen u localsrex...........whatever masti I did, that's not yur business. And if I remember correctly, I never harrassed anyone.....just because I was the senior, and neither did biscuit or rajiv. And I was the least involved in REC'ssss elections, otherwise I would have been the GS of my time. And for the masti I did there in REC, or for that matter biscuit did, we had enough money flowing from our parents ATM. We were not from a very frustating,cheap and poor family like you, who would show off their frustations on someone else. And if u had so much guts, why didn't u talk to me directly in REC, why blame me when it's almost 4 years, that I left college.

smart are those who consider themselves over smart ...toder supayan da aaj oh sai supayan wht he is during his college days ..but konkan one thing i should say i did not expected prithvi should take me wrong and i don't know wht happened with him may be he is doing job in a good MNC so obviously oh okon boro manus hoi gasse aar kita koitam...kintu in my hostel life i had more relation with my junior specially prithvi,jhuna,u then my batchmates but tokon prochondo kharap lage jokon those who r close to make make such comments...
