Thousands of Hindus fleeing Bangladesh
DHAKA, Oct 21 – Thousands of minority Hindus have fled their homes to escape attacks blamed on the supporters of Bangladesh’s new Government, rights groups and news reports said today. Prime Minister Khalida Zia’s new government, comprising a four-party alliance that includes two Islamic fundamentalist parties, denies the charges, reports AP. Women’s rights groups, however, said several persecuted families have fled to India from predominantly Muslim Bangladesh. Many others have taken shelter with relatives far from their attackers.
‘The minority Hindus have suffered harrowing torture, including rape of teen-age girls, by gangs of supporters of the new government,’ Rokeya Kabir, head of Nari Pragati Sangha, a leading women’s rights group, told reporters. Volunteers from Kabir’s group visited dozens of predominantly Hindu villages in seven districts in the past two weeks. ‘Our volunteers have met with families whose women were raped. Many of them would not speak out for fear of more attacks,’ Kabir said.
Anil Kumar Shil, a Hindu farmer, told another news conference that his teen-age daughter was raped by a gang of Zia’s supporters in a recent attack. The family has traveled to Dhaka, the capital from the northern district of Sirajgan. Hindus were targeted on the charge of supporting former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party in the October 1 Parliamentary elections. The polls were swept by Zia’s four-party alliance which includes the Islamic parties, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic Unity Council. |

Is your sending as I suspect an attempt to generate a round of communal feelings through saviours like RSS? Recent killings in Hyderabad, Surat and other places alongwith banning SIMI had already spoilt post Babri peace. Once again Ayodhya has to be flogged and here in Assam Hindus fleeing Bangladesh. Is that the strategy? |

What Muslim bashing ? I didn't make up those reports.They are in the newspapers for everyone to see.This is about people who are being extremely persecuted and that's what was being told in that news report.I don't care if this news item generates communal feelings or whatever.This is an important news item and people need to know about it.

I don't understand why anybody is calling it a Muslim bashing. It was a plain and simple newspaper report. In fact, if anybody looks at any Indian newspaper he/she will find the report on this incident. Bangladesh Awami League and Amensty International also confirmed this horrific event. |

Instead of blabbering here why don't you take up your issue with Assam Tribune who wrote that report.And if you'd cared to read the news properly, you would have seen that the reference to thousands of people fleeing their homes did not explicitly say that they had all fled and come over to India.It specifically mentions that out of these people some have fled to India and there are no numbers associated with it, although its pretty clear as to where the rest went.Get your facts straight and read things properly before going on an incoherent rant, alright !

Himdri says he does not care if the report incites communal passion. That actually reveals why he has circulated the report. Those who talked about plain fact I am sure their interest in plain fact is not that plain.Had it been so plain all these people would have joined me in debunking communal designs whosoever institutes it. There are victims on both these sides in different places. In this case it is Bangladesh, but there are cases of Muslim bashing. If you condemn one why are you silent on VHP's instigayting role in UP? That shows this sympathy for Hindus in Bangladesh is a masquerade to whip uip passions here in India. One must be aware of such green horn monsters. |

what is VHP's instigating role in UP ? VHP is trying to build a temple and not going on a raping and looting spree, are they ? Its a political problem that is being handled in a political manner and not through terrorism as in this case.

Dear Himadri,
I agree with you.The Muslims have become a liability for the civilised world.They persecute the minorities when they are in majority and are a pain in the butt when in minority.These philistines should be nuked out of existence.I wonder why most of the extemists are more often than not Muslims.I have a prescription for pseudo intellectuals like Tanmoy Bhat.They should be air dropped bag and baggage in Kandhar or Kabul,so that they can save their Moslem bretheren from extinction.
